Town setup?
Watching some highlevel players it appears that putting houses on every free space is not worth it and that one should insted build them in a squareshape with market and bank in the middle...whats the optimal placement for such a towndistrict and should you wait with placing your first 3 houses until you found the best direction for such a district? Why are houses not worth spamming on free space?

How often are you able to get close to that layout on a seed? Do you worry much about "wasting" farmland?

I prioritize Big city > farms > mills for farmland. I had some nice compact city layouts on my last playthrough but it will take me the whole week to upload it on youtube. First (semi)serious game in a while were I had 3 towns.

You generally have to plan to havea square town, and then build everywhere else whatever you need ie: the farmlands. Having tons of food and not enough houses is marginally worse than the other way around. You can always just build more towers for defense but you can't buy anything if you have no money cuz there's a lack of people. But yes, wasting farm space sucks but just have to scout and explore so as to weigh your options appropriately.

As far as getting that layout, Map 1 is very hit or miss with it, map 2 is VERY easy to get it with because of the sprawling space, map 3 is similar to Map 1 with a different problem preventing you from having a sprawling town (everything costs a buttload more energy).
