Some people want an easier game. Some people get tired of playing the same map over and over, while being unable to unlock new maps.
Don't jugde other people just because you want to challenge yourself. Nobody forces you to install any of the mods.
Besides that, I've been looking into how to modify soldiers to be actually useful.
Steam autoblocks mediafire because some people use it to spread malware. You need to copy the link into your browser manually.
plus copying the link into my browser doesn't work at all.
Yeah, Steam blocks all sorts of webpages. Mediafire is one of them. There is nothing iffy about the file, it is literally just a bunch of zips with .dat files.
The link don't even work in my browser, just takes me to google search.
The maps don't get easier. If you're stuck on 1 then 2 will be a problem. I had a hard time getting past 1 until I stopped building advanced stuff all the time. No Titans, no cool troops, just snipers and ballistas for most of the game.
Just noticed I put the wrong .dat file into the unlocker, namely the strings file instead of the rules file. If you want to unlock other maps, you can refresh the download page and download the file again. It contains the correct .dat file for the unlocker now.
I wanted to try the second map because I don't mind villages of doom, (which really should be renamed to doomed villages.) and I wanted to see what it'd be like.
I personally feel the economy is fine in game, with the glaring exception of the market, even if the building placement is frustrating at times. The truly problematic elements are units being improperly balanced, and the horribly specific strategies required to win.
By that I mean that I love city building games, I like RTS games. I do well on games like company of heroes and the like where I can micro abilities and use squads well, and I also do well on standard rts games. The problem here is that several units suck, alot of good units are gated behind very expensive production facilities (the soldier center itself is costly, and I'd like it if we could train rangers from our center/hunting lodges.) But even those units are trash to most successful players who just use snipers...it's depressing to me because it feels so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gamey.
It's just like resources being sold for dirt cheap next to nothing prices, and purchased for 10x or even 20x their sale price. I don't mind it being a 4-5x ratio, where I pay 4 to 5 times as much as I can sell them for, but this level of disparity is ridiculous.
Ultimately I guess it's my sense of immersion and versimilitude that bothers me with this game. Soldiers being inferior to rangers, walls being torn down so readily by a handful of infected, and the horrendous exchange rates all add up to be quite frustrating.
Three things I'd suggest for the devs would have to be A, a static map you could select, or perhaps a handful of them for each map gen, that would give people a fair chance to win without worrying about the RNG. B, better market rates, and finally C, an evaluation of units cost-benefit ratio and the expansion of unit variety. Things like machine gun teams, the ability to perhaps build an 'entrenchment' with specific units and other nifty if unnecessary features would be beautiful to see.
TLDR, I love the game, have problems with some design decisions and would like to see more options.
Thanks man was wondering why that wasn't working correctly.
Also I scanned the files with ESET and confirmed they are clean.
