No shock towers yet, am I screwed?
I've got Cape Storm, Narrow Pass, and the Frozen Lake maps to choose from. I do not have shock towers nor stone walls yet. I've got full research from all the hero missions.

At this point shocking towers seem like an absolute must-have tech to clear any mission. I had like 14 ballista towers on every wave spawn point on Frozen Lake, and they still broke through on two locations like it was nothing. The only damage upgrade I have are the ranger and soldier ones.

How screwed am I?

i mean its still doable but yeah you messed up

assuming you have the train upgrades "assuming you dont by the looks of it" then narrow pass is definitely beatable

cape storm you again dont need shock towers as if you have 300+ soldiers you can do it

frozen lake never did it without shock towers so idk but shock towers would definitely help

moral of the story 1- dont make bad tech choices

2- if 1 is unavoidable then always make backups precisely to avoid this scenario

Then it looks like I'm gonna have to restart my campaign, lol.
Too bad changing your tech choices is not a thing.
Depends on the difficulty you want to play. I did Cape Storm, Narrow Pass and Frozen Lake at 200% without having stone walls or shocking towers. It's doable. Just in case of Cape Storm I had 10 double layer walls and about 200+ soldiers and barely made it. (I did not have ballistas either)

thats why you save backups

press esc in the campaign map screen

"save backup" play missions and if you ever mess up "Load backup" and "re-roll" tech if your unhappy

your campaign is definitely still winnable you just made a few mistakes

All of the mentioned missions have been done without shock towers. In fact all of them have been done with just rangers and supporting tech on apoc.

So no you are not screwed.

Did you make it harder than the "optimal" build yes but its far from unwinnable.

If you really feel its not winnable you can restart or turn down the diff for a few missions.

The campaign is alright, just messy.

Just finished Cape Storm (200% and I went through the map spoiler free) earlier today under similar circumstances, using nothing but soldiers and the starting defenses. I mean, why use wooden or stone walls when you can put up a wall of flesh?

Started the fight with 368 soldiers with roughly half inside or outside the wall (All veterans were inside due to their slightly higher range) and ended it with only 166 soldiers left standing, a few tiles of wall on the far left side, and a couple of infected buildings on the far right (I built a mill near the right edge of the wall, not expecting the final wave to be as massive as it was, and the gap it created in my wall of soldiers crippled that flank's damage output).

I'm *really* glad I pushed my food to the limit by replacing a bunch of sawmills with mediocre farms and by spamming a bunch of 3-5 food hunting lodges in whatever gaps I could find. I seriously doubt I would have survived if I had only 20-30 less soldiers at the start, let alone the 50-70 I got from those changes/additions.

Notable techs were the +20% armor and damage techs on soldiers.

Grats! The next few missions after cape storm can be soldier spammed too but the earlier you get shocks the easier it'll be.

i got through it all without shock towers some parts were trial and error but not much just spam units and towers and maybe have a inn for cape storm as if you get titans in time then they will be a really big help along with thanatos
