Supposedly you need to uninstall the game, clear the folder completely and reinstall, but it may still happen.
For it to happen to a legit player yes its a rare bug.
If you just installed the game that you pirated before you are not yet a "legit" copy you need to fully remove the game and reinstall to make it a legit copy. Same goes if you edited the game files you can trigger the same effect as you made the game no longer legit but modified both would be it going of correctly. The fix being the same full reinstall.
Beyond those two cases it happening to legit players is rare thou dose happen. That being said in the bug report fourms legit players have been bringing this up a lot more frequently recently so the devs may of messed something up making it more frequent. Due to the devs not giving us patch notes witch is the stupidest thing we cant even guess what caused it.
As andrew said it happens if 5-10 days of starting or loading a game if working correctly. Corrupt save games seam to be the cause from my experience. I think its due to custom maps more easily corrupting a save. In the OPs case it was 45 days in + his mouse icon thou possible he loaded that game if he dint it was not the anti piracy effect going of correctly but the bug triggering.
@the OP if this happens a 2nd game I would try the steps listed in this thread to witch works for people that just installed the game after pirated to fully reset the check for if its legit.

Gomez's post the 2nd one explains it.
I reinstalled once again and it hasn't happened again so far, but I'm always going to have to look out for this bug.
Yes witch is the whole point of the thread it dose happen but rare none the less or else you would have far far more post of this happening vs most people going many many hours often several hundred without seeing the bug. Early access and even if it was not should always be on the look out for any bug.
Fresh install if it was the first game after means something did go wrong in your install or just after. Something likely got corrupted or dint flag correctly. It not happening in the first few days means the game did detect it as a legit copy at first but something changed over the game likely due to a new install your antivirus or otherwise falsely flagging and deleting a file in the background witch dose happen a lot in early access games esp on new installs that may or may not have everything up to date. Prime example few patches back almost everyones anti virus flaged they are billions are a virus. I find the steamclient64.dil is the one anti viruses love to delete on many early access games. For example darksouls 3 for me wont even run if I don't set that file on my antiviruses "safe" list so it doesn't get removed on startup. As this file also is the one that most steam games use to show if its a legit copy it being removed likely could cause the bug. Witch would be auto replaced each time you start up via steam cloud backup letting it launch only to be deleted after to cause the issue each time something triggers its removal.
The fact its not widespread shows its not something wrong in the coding or it would be reproducible and constantly reproduced on everyone's system. The fact its not means its something on your end changing something to cause it. Yes there code being changed can fix that issue but the underlying issue remains as something changed something on your end vs there test systems and everyone else. This is esp shown since a fresh install fixes the issue for everyone I seen it pop up for only proves it was a result of your end or doing so wouldn't fix the code and as such do nothing to the issue if it was a coding issue not something caused by something on your end. It poping up often on the same person after a little again, also points the the same of it being on there end of something underlying on there end that is causing it and not being fixed.
With the above said as said before it seams to be poping up more frequently recently so vary well something has changed vs how it used to be.
Its rare since the something that is causing it not everyone has so the situation is not reproduced often. Plus since it doesn't always happen on your end means its not something that is always there. A virus update to your antivirus deleting a file incorrectly is quite likely esp after a fresh install only idea I have at random but many other things could cause it.
As andrew said should be reporting in the bug report thread if you tthink its the bug where the devs can see and get it fixed.
As I mentioned earlier it seams more and more people are seeing this bug pop up recently so vary possible the devs messed something up esp as it happening during the final wave assuming you never loaded shouldn't happen its meant to trigger vary early game if you had a non legit copy. Posting here wont help you get the issue fixed if its something that changed we can only go with the info we know from the game witch is quite often outdated due to the devs not posting patch notes making it harder on everyone.
Gomez and the devs in bug reports have the info of what changed to help fix a new bug the pop up causing it if there is. But given you have so many hours its also vary possible in that time some file has got corrupted and just needs a fresh install witch is the current fix and should be your first fix tryed. If that doesn't work than it might be something new but otherwise its just the current bug poping up on you after that long due to file corruption witch is nothing new in games happens to most.
Also if playing a workshop game how do you know the mapmarker dint add that in as a mechanic I have seen people do that. Eg most tds use it as a means to stop you from making walls. Hell it could be that spot is meant to spawn zombies after that night and your not to be basing there. Workshop maps are not a good indicator of such a bug as to many unknowns.
Also workshop makes in general are more prone to bugs as you don't only have the base game bugs but all the bugs from the map dev and there changes.
yeah i seen the post in the bug forum. i will do it and see if it works.
thanks for the heads up on the bugs in the workshop games. i hope i dont run into that too many times in workshop cause im really enjoying some of those maps. play the " live on " map. the final wave is insane. it makes nightmare look like easy.
I find a good habit is to "save scum" workshop games not to really use the save to save you in case of fail but to use in case of a bug. As a bug is not a "fair" way for you to die so shouldn't feel bad save scuming it. Least till game is out of early access.
Just uninstall...delete any "they are billions" folders and reinstall...
works like a charm now...
for posterity...my slimdx stopped working on first install then it finished...it was bad installation...
I never pirated the game...
Will do the uninstall, hope that works for me.
I wonder if it is breaking on updates, or just something that can get corrupted over time.
Now the hard part is actually KNOWING that something has actually happend, or they just some how snuck by.
Thats why i REALLY hate this "copy protection" that buggs out and hit paying customers.
I lost a game today, but i am not 100% sure it was a snuck by, i was tackling my second swarm event, and some how one snuck in on the other flank.
It may be legit, i had only one dudette in a tower over there, so not impossible.
BUT, i have NO way to be sure.
