I'm not saying there shouldn't be colorblind modes developed; I'm saying it won't "make the game VERY hard to play" and you'll see "the building placement and other certain other UI elements" just fine. If you're interested in the game now, you should just go ahead and get it.
I'm talking about just my experience. I'm not sure about the other colorblind catagories. Your milage may vary.
I think having complete color blindness (monocromantic) wouldn't even effect much. Colors aren't a big deal in this game like other RTS.
I also have deuteranopia, and on streams I just CANNOT see the Building Placement UI properly, it's Red/Green just like the Minimap colors are Red/Green. I just can't see a difference. I'd say it gets quite hard to play the game properly when nearly the entire game is based around placing buildings :P
Hello,
We take note of your suggestion. Our dev team will be its viability.
Thanks for your idea.
EDIT: Our Develop Team has communicated to me that they will implement this option for the next game update. But please, we need you help us telling what colours we have to change into others.
Kind Regards.
That's amazing news!
I've already bought the game anyways since it's just so much fun.
I have moderate to severe deuteranopia, so that means that I'm missing a few cones I believe in my eye that normal people have to be able to distinguish the colors Red and Green.
The problem for me is mostly that the game (lots of other games as well) works with Green = Positive, and Red = Negative. So when watching the minimap, or placing buildings. It's very hard to see when I can actually place a building instead of it being in an incorrect location.
So for me a possible fix would be for all the Positive elements (like when you can place a building or your own buildings/units on the minimap) to be Blue, but since I can imagine more colorblind people will play your game with different types the best would be an option to customize this to your own liking.
Thanks for hearing me out and can't wait for the update!
Let the player pick color = make everyone happy (and actually less work for the devs...)

Thanks for the information. I'll bring it to our dev team.
Kind Regards.
Another very simple fix is to always have a black border around icons like the arrow. Single color icon on top of more or less single-color background is asking for trouble (unless you use black or white border).
It is awesome that there is a color-blind option in the menu, kudos for that! Unfortunately it does not help with my kind of color-blindness.
From screenshot experiments I gathered that the minimap colors are currently:
Color-blind mode OFF:
#00C800 for own stuff (0,200,0)
#FFD700 for resource items (255,215,0)
#B4141E for enemies (180,20,30)
Color-blind mode ON:
#0080FF for own stuff (0,128,255)
#FFD700 for resource items (255,215,0)
#B4141E for enemies (180,20,30)
So for my problem of not seeing the enemies on the minimap, the color-blind mode does not help, because the enemy color does not change at all :D
Is there a chance to get an additional option to change the enemy color as well? I mean, the best solution would be to let players pick their own colors in the options menu, but I know that this can be much work, depending on the architecture of the game...
Alternatively, is there maybe a way to mod the game so I can replace the minimap colors with my own? I mean, this should just be 3 bytes somewhere in the game files, right? I just heard my inner naive modder say "How hard can it be, really?" xDD
Edit:
Well, my naive modding approach did not work. I found the bytes that need to be changed (they are hard coded in the exe) but the game won't start when I change them. Back to square one, I guess *cry*
Maybe you can find more general workarounds here:

or on some else websites about general color blind gaming.
