Best way to make gold? Are banks useful?
Some guides say houses... some say it's not houses, but resource + market and/or warehouse .. or both?

Do double markets double in sell cost?

Usually end-game I always lack gold... there's something eating it up and I'm not quite sure...

Also, are banks worth it?

1 Stone house with a bank gives 52 gold income as opposed to i think 40. Everything costs money to upkeep, especially late game stuff (advanced mills/farms/quarries)

Houses all the way.

I played my first 3 games without it, lost them all.
After i watched some vids and saw that they use the bank, and building a lot of houses i tried it myself and won.

so yes, i would they there worth it

what? you should plan you base so most of your tents-cottages-stone houses will be covered in market and bank influence area (both of these buildings are must have)
sometimes you need 2 housing districts to keep you economy in flow

upkeep is eating your gold - bigger colony/more troops = more upkeep
you can check for upkeep/salary on building/unit stats
as example, executors, titans, advanced mills consume a lot of money

You can win a game with a single bank surrounded with houses. If you don't have to space to tidily do that, you can win it with 2 banks; I won a game with 1800 colonists, most of which were covered by a bank, which was earning me 3000 bucks per payment.

You should be more concerned about your other buildings.

1: Don't build resources where you'll get any less than 3-4 stone or any less than 10 wood.
2: Upgrading buildings makes its upkeep 3-5 times more expensive but only increases its output by up to 2 times as much (Looking at you, advanced mill!)
3: Every unit is an upkeep. Always get the mayor that makes a certain unit cheaper. Especially snipers, thanatos, or titan.
4: The attacking towers have a MASSIVE upkeep. You can get away with just using units until the last wave (But you'll need to slam down heaps starting day 80!)

Frank's second point seems to be the main issue here. I think having no banks can actually work well enough (though having them helps a ridiculous amount), but Advanced Mills are the biggest trap in this game. for 20 more power you pay... 40 or 50 upkeep instead of 6? Either way, it's insane.

Likewise all other advanced buildings and the Executioner have huge maintance costs as well.

The best way to make gold is to build stone houses, preferably around a bank & market, and be really careful with the advanced buildings.

Ballista towers are really ridiculously awesome, good value for the price, you just gotta use those. Its true executors are crazy expensive and really its nearly always better to only upgrade them for the final wave.

Banks are critical you really can't overestimate their importance if you have any kind of housing district with a concentration of tents, cottage, and/or stone houses. I haven't seen anyone run a colony without clustering these buildings because it is too valuable to be able to focus your defenses and gain the market + bank bonuses.

Also market+market, bank+bank do not stack their bonuses (-food and +gold, respectively). However market+market does increase the amount your resources sell for. Honestly I tried for about 25 hours trying to base my economy on resource capturing and market resource selling for gold income, and it just didn't work out, even though it makes a small profit for your stone, iron, and oil to sell, I don't think expanding for the sake of producing and selling excess resources is a viable way to augment your economy. It is too expensive to defend an expansion and repair it if things go wrong, and the income from selling those excess resources is really miniscule. Don't let that stop you from capturing resource points in order to get the necessary stone to upgrade your walls, but don't do it for the sake of income.

thanks for the tips guys, I think I got trapped with the improved mills. I got lucky to win a game without a bank earlier but really really strugged with only less than 800 or so gold income ... and I only had ballistas at the time

on map3 i have a feeling that im playing not to survive, but to build mills - increased energy consumption means i need more mills > more workers > more houses/food > more energy consumption > more mills > more workers and so on ... infinite loop :steamfacepalm:
usually more than half of my captured terrain is taken by mills
i hope devs at least reduce the radius on which we cannot build another mill close to each other
p.s. despite the fact, that adv.mill have much more upkeep, at least you dont need another 4 workers (and another energy for their houses and food lol) for it

You can win without banks. Just avoid having too many endgame buildings like executors, advanced farms/mills/quarries. Those buildings eat up your income like nothing else.

Ok finished and survived my 2nd map with 2 banks and 2 markets on 2 clumps of houses, I quadrupled my monies :D , geez that mill upgrade is such a trap, it should only be used for emergencies. I didn't upgrade my quarries either, it's only the final wave that made me thirst more iron and stone so I don't know if upgrading quarries will help in the gold increase once stocks overflow

A well placed bank will pay for itself in a couple of days. They are amazing.
the_qki Jan 19, 2018 @ 7:08am
Are banks worth it? Just do the math. A stone house generates 40 gold per tick, or 52 gold if covered by a bank. That's a net increase of 12 gold. As long as your bank covers 10 houses, it pays for itself in more or less 80 hours (10 ticks), which is just over 3 days. Cover 30 houses, and you go from investment to profit in 3 ticks.

Just make sure you don't block everything off, else it can be annoying to move your infantry around.

Gonna be honest that I found the layout on the internet and watched a lot of aznelite :p
