It doesn't seem possible.
That was on meadow map, initial and crossroads were peice of cake.
Narrow pass even on nightmare was already harder than at least half the 3 star missions it’s a prime example of a mission you return to. Getting eg train supply to iron helps a ton.
It should be the question being do you want to waste tech on them when you can directly tech to iron traps later by waiting to do that mission.
Snipers are still better vs VoDs and spitters. I imagine the spitter mission is far far harder without them. However, before difficulty 4 when the specials start coming in force soldiers are probably better.
Wasps + snipers still seems far far better, since the snipers aggro the venoms and the venoms will ignore the wasps if they are aggroed, walking to their doom (wasps take down spitters surprisingly fast). Also wasps/snipers are tech you'll probably want anyway since they're universally useful.
If you were doing a specific self-inflicted challenge (like no snipers or something) then maybe traps aren't too bad. The nightmare wave for the spitters was rather dissapointing, but I expect the apocalypse one to be far scarier.
I just passed it in a single try using only soldier and shocking tower, no spike trap, no stone wall, no extra units at the start.
I invest in logistic tech line to get iron from the train, then I just use my 4 ranger to create space little by little until I get enough stone to build soldier center and start making soldier to push out in every direction, slowly but strongly and steadily.
I have 12 veteran soldier and 4 regular soldier behind two stack of wood wall to defend against the first wave because I don't have enough economy to get shocking tower yet at that point, I sacrifice two ranger as I kite the first wave multiple time so my defend line don't get overwhelmed.
After I survive the first wave it's just a piece of cake since I have plenty of time to prepare my economy and resouces.
