Efficient Turbines unlock - 30% to mill (but does that also include advanced mills?)
So if I pick up Efficient Turbines as an unlock and it provides 30% energy supply to "Mills" does this also include the improved mills ?

Or is this another 'trap' research unlock that is obsolete once we get the advanced mills.

I don't think that it does.

However, I would not consider this a trap research. In fact it is quite good. The problem with advanced mills is they have a HUGE upkeep and upfront cost; they do save you space but you lose a lot of gold and iron for that exchange, and it's not pretty. In fact, I would say the advanced mill is a trap, not the other way around.

it does not affect advanced mills

It's one of the better techs since Advanced Mills are pretty bad over all.

The only trap here are advanced mills, if anything this research is the final nail in their coffin since it makes regular mills even more effective.

Advanced mills cost you around 9x more gold not including setup cost for the same power as normal mills pre perk. There redic underpowered when you add in there setup cost there just bad it’s better to use power plants till you have 0 wood income left and buy your wood than use adv mill you end up paying less gold for the power that way even with only 1 market.

I avoid building any mills once I get to stone tech.

I've found power plants to be a great mid-game tech to unlock and an improvement over mills, even the enhanced/advanced ones.

They consume 40 gold and 10 wood maintenance, but produce a huge 160 energy, more than 5 normal mills and you can build them next to each other. And since you get it when you're at stone tech, transitioning from wood to stone as a key resource, wood isn't that important.

I like skipping to lightning spire for a ridiculous +800 energy instead of spamming mills late game. It's worth 26 normal mills (or 20 efficient turbine ones), that is a crazy amount of space saved. Its upkeep is merely 100 gold too, costing you no wood and less gold than 26 (or 20) mills would. Yes the upfront cost is enormous but simply put, it's worth it and your train deliveries wind up quietly covering most of the costs like the 100 oil tag.

Some of the campaign maps have obnoxious layouts where saving that much mill space feels good man.
