How to get gold production above 2000?
Im struggling with one of the first tier 2 levels where I need 700 population and 2000 gold production. I have no issue reaching 700 pop but I can't seem to keep my gold production above 600 due to building and unit maintanence. I have 2 quarries on each of the 4 gold mines and can't place any more. I keep plopping down huts and cottages to increase gold production but it's so miniscule I feel I have to colonize every inch of the map with them. The problem with that also is I'm wasting too much gold maintenance on farms and hunting huts to accommodate the living quarters. Was I supposed to research a certain building that drastically ups my gold production? I also keep losing production from building military units to deal with the massive hordes that attack so I can't just get rid of them either.

go into research tree, there are a couple options

1) train at the bottom one of them delivers gold and gives you +800 gold storage in addition to that

2) research the "mechanical storage" next to logistics, it's near the first one lets you build warehouses. Warehouses are pricey (40 stone in addition to other mats) but its the only way you can really push your storage arbitrarily high.

Warehouses are basically necessary for more reasons than just the cap increase. They provide a 20% boost to all resource structures in range including farms and quarries. On maps with limited amounts of nodes to pull from the warehouse is more than worth it to increase income. It also works on gold quarries, which on some maps you can get pretty massive gold income from.

Related note to above poster, the market is pretty damn good for tight spaces too, saving 20% food on all your tents/farms is damnnnnnn good. It also lets you dump gold into a resource you're missing, which is damnnnnn good.

The inn maybe sure I haven't tried it yet as gold isn't quite as bad as food but it should be good too for resource efficiency in tight spaces.

You shouldn't have two quarries at each gold place. They are designed so you can place a quarry in the middle and get around 280 gold from each. Add a warehous to increase. What defences are you fielding to have such high upkeep?

The mission will complete the second you hit those criteria. I finished before the final wave came so you can delete a lot of your force to hit that goal.

The simplest way is to go way above the 700 pop goal.
When I did the mission, I didn't have any economy tech other than Farms and Cottages, i just kept building those. There's enough space and food.

I also placed only one gold quarry per deposit, always in the middle of the deposit.

If you already reached 2000 gold, but it's your upkeep cost that's reducing income below 2000, you can simply delete some building that have upkeep cost.

If you have tech points available, Inn and Bank boost the income of nearby houses dramatically.

Get a pop of around 400-500, Turtle till the last wave (in between clear zombies and possibly grab one or two mines after clearing) and once the last wave is done grab all gold mines and increase housing. Super easy.

Did this on Nightmare setting and was comfortably holding the walls with just soldiers (edit: forgot I had some snipers too). Had no warehouses, markets or train boosts like the other people above mentioned (no tech).

I did this before the incredible nerf bat came out. So now with even more time and less zombies it should be a breeze.

You shouldn't put 2 quarries per gold mine, you should have 1 in the center of each 4, put a warehouse next to each and all 4 will get 320 ea, Then you just need to spam houses and snipers. If you have wasp tech researched, that is a massive game changer as for their cheap price of 300(i think, its around that anyway) gold and 10 iron, they shred zeds faster than stuff like Great ballista/shocking towers. Seriously 10 of those and some stone/wood walls and you are golden for hoards. With the playstyle of aggressive expansion, i managed to get the 2k gold req for that mission just after the second wave on nightmare.

I'm still a newb at this game so I didn't realize you could place quarries directly on the deposits. I thought they had to be placed adjacent to them. Thanks for the answers guys, I'll give some of the other tips a try too if I haven't screwed my tech tree up badly enough yet.

You can't place quarries on the deposits. But in the middle of the gold deposits are a 2x2 tile free to place your quarries there.

Gotcha, thanks.

The only way I can imagine you hammering your income at 700 pop and with all 4 mines down to 600 is by spamming ballistas absolutely everywhere.
Sell them.

This is very bad advice.

You should always maximize the total amount of resource (stone, iron, gold) from a patch. If one building placed in the middle give 5, but placing one on either end gives 3 each for a total of 6, you always build both. Not necessarily right away, but the first one you place should be done with later placing the second in mind.

As you progress into longer missions with larger colonies you will always be bottlenecked by stone and iron production, not gold. That is why you maximize what you can get out of each patch, and hence out of the map. The extra gold upkeep is irrelevant.

Except he didn't mention anything about quarries in general. He only said that you shouldn't have two quarries at each gold place, referring to the Raven Mines campaign mission.

Normally that is true. However in the specific mission and gold production needed that the OP is talking about you get more gold from the available deposits on the map by placing one in the middle of the pile.
