Is calliope just superior
...simply because she walks faster? I kind of want to get through the hero missions fast (or just be able to backtrack quickly to previous ares to look for more loot) and they both seem about equally capable of handing zombies, so why would I not just pick calliope for the better move speed?

That's why I picked her. Sure the dude has an aoe that helps when you find an area full of infected, but I have no problem just using her speed to kite. Really it just comes down to player preference. Do you want speed, or aoe with higher hp? Go with what suits your playstyle.

She is definitely more fun to play with.
I like her more than the slow hulk.

I tried both and noticed they can both handle zombies about equally well, so I mean...why NOT just have a strictly better travel time and go with calliope?

Player preference. There are later hero missions where you enter areas completely packed full of infected. Aoe does wonders in those situations. With her you have to run and gun, dodging and kiting as you slowly whittle down the hoard. With him you become a stationary weapons platform laughing as you blow huge chunks out of the hoard. One style suits some people the other style suits different people.

Yes, she is. Her fast speed makes it possible to kite zombies. Caelus does AOE but gets stuck in a lot of situations where he gets overrun.

Well i didn't take Calliope and i sure like my more slow and tanky man.

But....grenades. Calliope does not lack for a way of dealing with packed situations. Grenades may be limited, but so are the situations in which you "need" them. In fact, I would say there are more grenades than I use anyways.

Player preference doesn't mean much if I'm saving a significant amount of travel time by going calliope.

In later missions there are so many situations in which you'll need them especially if you crank that difficulty up all the way.

As I said I certainly prefer speed over aoe and toughness, but there is an argument to be made for both. So it comes down to player preference. Clearly like me you prefer speed and maneuverability so you like her more.

Calliope will save travel time, but Caelus will save killing time as he deals with running into a horde of 100 infected quicker then Calliope can.

Ok good point I haven't turned the difficulty all the way up, so it could be that grenades aren't sufficient. Honestly I'm pissed right now because I'm stuck with callus on my most advanced campaign. My first campaign was a flop that ended with teching to a wonder I couldn't afford, but I had calliope on that run and now I miss her.

edit: btw since ur on a later mission...is there any reason to upgrade callus's damage? He already does 71 base damage which is enough to one shot everything under a fatty. Maybe 1 damage upgrade to be able to kill execs in one hit is enough? I don't think the perks make that much difference but I'd still like to use them "optimally" if I can.

That sucks. There are times where I think "dang having aoe attacks would be great right now" but I just love that speed and mobility too much.

Genji player detected! (j/k). btw since ur on a later mission are there any perks you really recommend getting/avoiding?

I imagine that defense/life is pretty useless but would like confirmation, as well as any suggestions on reload/attack speed/damage which to prefer in which situations.
Mr Plainview Jun 22, 2019 @ 6:04pm
I didn't play him too much, but if memory serves I went with attack speed. Of course I'm bias, I always upgrade attack speed in any game where I can with a character. But yeah I'd say damage and attack speed. Kill things hard, and kill them quick.
snuggleform Jun 22, 2019 @ 6:09pm
Well damage doesn't make sense cuz he already one shots them...why one shot them harder? If the fatties show up that's when I use grenades or the terrain.

What perks do you find useful on your calliope? Does the reload speed help a lot?
Mr Plainview Jun 22, 2019 @ 6:14pm
With Calliope I focused attack speed and movement. Just killed everything fast and avoided any bad situations. She has like half the hp as he does but with her speed you can just avoid being hit if you keep your eyes on the situation and use the terrain.
Mr Plainview Jun 22, 2019 @ 6:16pm
An argument can be made with Caelus to upgrade defense and hp then just be a tank who shrugs off damage, but I'd rather see if someone tried it and how it worked before I'd actually invest in that. Attack speed just seems better to me for both characters. But as I said that suits my playstyle.
