However, if your economy is good enough you can build them in a good spot with a good company and you will have the most secure wall of your defs for a single detail: they are "stress relief" to your wall hp.
If you set executors and sniper towers to prioritize high treat enemy you have done the trick.
Thats probably because shock towers lack the damage and range needed to take out the spitters and chubbies that the game throws at you by endgame. Granted enough thanathos and snipers should be able to replace executors easily enough but not many people build enough military to cover each wall with the numbers thats needed.
That's why you also build executioners, they deal with those units ( specially harpees ) then your shock tower can just rek huge swarms of monsters.
I specifically like shock tower in mid game, a shock tower with 2 balistics can basically solo any group at your walls so you don't have to reenforce it with units which can continou clearing. It's also really effiicent to thin out the last wave on brutal before they hit your main line of defense.
However a shock tower solo will not work.
The reason for this that mostly when huge swarms get close and shock tower does damage it's also dead fast. The huge upkeep on energy is also something most people don't want to build ecenomy's for.
Splitters and banshee's will whipe them out fast, so shock tower on later game is more interesting if you can build it in a choking point or behind tree's for example where huge swarms of zombies will walk past.
If you however want to deal with swarms that straight up face you, executioner towers are better with thanatos killing all the small units anyway. So there is no need to have a shocking tower which only covers a extremly limited area.
Also the final wave tends to have lots of fatty's at front, which shocking tower isn't working well with. executioners are better on that front.
Shock towers sound like crowd control and they have a very short range. Wouldn't it be better to use more thanatos instead? Thanatos are also crowd controllers with the added value of longer range and mobility.
The only reason I can think of is oil limitation. Then again, I should probably try shock towers first before making that call. :D
