Final Wave: I'm clearly missing something in this game...
Okay, where to start?

I have almost 50 hours in this game, and I never won.
I always play at 55%, where should be easy to succeed, but I always lose the game at the final wave. What I'm missing?

I literally disintegrate each single wave in a few seconds 'till that moment... where there are just too many infected on one side.. :/

In my last game, I had at least 2 Shocking Towers, and 2 Executors just on the first line, surrounded by stone walls, and iron traps. I did have even a second line on each side, with more walls, towers and sooooo many traps.

But there were just... toooooo... many of them.

What the hell I'm missing? I didn't make a single mistake in my last game, and I wasn't even close to win that game..

Should I follow a specific strategy in the last wave?

Since it was at 55% of difficulty, I really have no idea what to do next, so I would really like to get some help from you guys.

Thanks!

1) Don't upgrade to Executor towers until you're nearing the final wave. You need to time the upgrades, because when you have 35-45 Ballistas, it does take a lot of time to harvest the required resources.

2) Shocking towers are actually amazing. I don't know why some people don't like them. Keep them at the front somewhere that you think the horde will gather on that bit of wall. Double walls. They do take a lot of power, so be prepared for more mills etc.

3) Only ever upgrade your resource buildings and mills if you've run out of space for expansion. The main ones you'll need to upgrade will be farms and mills. Just bear in mind that the upgrades aren't as efficient in terms of the cost:benefit ratio. They're just for when things get cramped.

4) Upgrading housing is good to do, except on Map 3 (at least, I think it was 3...). Remember this for when you get there. Buildings cost more power than normal to run, and so the top tier housing is only for when you are in a dire emergency for more Pop... but they will drain so much energy.

5) At intervals along your walls, you need sniper towers. People have different opinions on what to put in there, but I put in 2x Snipers and 2x Soliders, and that should be sufficient for a 55% difficulty.

6) Expansion needs to be done at a steady rate. Remember that as long as you have the core of your colony protected, you can expand without putting walls and towers up right away. This is because the units that you use to clear out the area for expansion will be ok to defend the territory. Just make sure you have some Ballista towers and walls etc ready for the next wave.

7) Have multiple layers to your defence. By this I mean don't delete your old defenses when you expand - unless you need the space for something of course. Just assume that your first line of defenses can get overrun and so you need the multiple layers to take the energy out of the horde.

8) Along an average length of a defensive line, I have 1 Shocking tower in the centre, with an executor either side. Each executor has a stone tower supporting it. If I have resources I plonk more towers down behind them. Put walls all the way around them, so that if the main defensive wall falls, the horde still has to destroy the wall around the tower. Even if it's wood at least it can slow them down a few seconds.

9) Have 2 to 4 Thanatos along each wall section. 4 will possible be a bit overkill, but if you have the resources then go for it. They are pretty much essential.

10) Set everything to target the highest level, and not the nearest - except for Thanatos. The shocking tower will kill the nearest things, and the AoE damage on everything else will kill the standard zombies. And the Thanatos will wipe out the regular zombies by the dozen.

11) Throughout the course of the match, add some defenses around the Mansion. This saved me in one of my games where my defenses got overrun. I pulled every unit I had back to the Mansion, to support 8 Executors, and I managed to survive. It was epic.

12) Finally, have a look at how you're setting the difficulty level. For me personally, I find it easier going for more zombies to increase the %, and having more days to lower the %.

Anyroad, I hope this helps you!

Just see every wave as a simple test from every side. And by simple, I mean simple. I only won one time yet but you always lose because of that one side which is not fully prepared for the last attack. the thing is never to feel good in your comfort zone. always expand. get more units, more ressources, more towers, more of more and maybe it will last some time. but never start stopping expanding and building more troops and towers. just never. its always not enough on side. and try not to have small/not bright enough defense lines. which will result in less towers for units and automatic towers. always have 2-3 wall lines on the front line and traps in front of it. I hope it helps you.

With pics we can give great specific advice, without , we can do general advice and assumptions.
Do you have screenshots ?

No no no.
No Shocking Towers, No Executors and why is there not a normal tower with snipers?
Without snipers your towers get destroyed by harpys

Balista Tower is thje only one you build
Snipers and Thanatos are the only units you need to have and a lot of those.
And at last, double double walls. Two walls together then one block free and another two walls.

Watch one of the videos this guy does. https://www.youtube.com/user/AznElite123 I suggest one of the "normal" non challenge ones. I watched one video and then unlocked all the maps in one try each.

Do a double stone tower with 2 shock towers(one in the left side of the wall, and the other in the right side) and one Executor in the middle. Get 2 stone towers full with snipers, and get at least 2 thanatos and use the manual Attack Action to use full AoE of the missiles for extra effectiveness. Remember to surround your shock towers with 1 square of stone walls.

Don't feel bad man, it took me 60 hours to beat the first map at 75% and I consider myself a half-decent RTS player. The way the game is, you essentially need to die to the last-wave to learn how it works.

To put it simply, you only need two things: AOE and Snipers, the rest is up to your imagination.

And I bet you felt nothing when you did.

Boggles the mind why people play games like this only to copy a strategy to win. All the fun I've had with this game is learning and formulating my own strategies.

@OP I'd suggest beating the game on your own steam, there's a great sense of accomplishment when you finally do.

No Executers? What's your spacing on Ballistas, in that case? By day 60, if i don't have executers, i'm in panic mode. lol

And yes.. sniper towers, sniper towers... SNIPER TOWERS. +1.... Veterans snipers by day 100+ in all your towers is like.. GG, if you have good locations.

Just completed the 1st map on 100% Thought you had to be at 100% or more to move onto map 2.

I watched a ton of vids and read the guides and this is the best advise I found which enabled me to kill of the final horde of billions.

You always have stuff to do, if you think you can just look around and play wth your units think again. Always be looking to build food supply, power supply, wood, stone, iron, money, expand etc. Always be thinking how can I get more. If you see a node you want to be farming that node.

Always be building or upgrading houses. Make sure you pick a good area to build your housing area. In the middle of that area you will need a 10x10 space for the bank and market place.

Some areas are suited for say farming, green fields make sure you do that then build storage places within to increase production. Ensure you get capacity for 6000 gold asap if you are going titans.

Expand, carefully. Always look for the next spot to expand. When you move your troops into an area and begin to clear it of zom zoms start placing pylons right behind you, Then farms etc.

This first time I beat the map I had my economy at over 2000 from about day 35-40.I was lucky with a few large gold mines but if you seem them grab them. I Kept pushing but by day 92 I was on around 400 gold because of all the executors thanos etc

I stuck to archers and then thanos. I must have had around 50 thanos by day 92 the last wave.

Ballistas are very good. I used them alot and did not go to executors until day 70 plus. They cost so much more in energy that it can really slow you down if you start upgrading or building them early. That slow down can cripple you financially and that means you will not survive day 93

I agree Shocking towers are a weaker choice. Traps are useless, I would not bother with them. What you need is at least 3 lines of defence, every side with stone walls poking out as far as you can make them so that the zoms stop and bash them down while you rain fire on them.

I find the vids by AznElite123 on Youtube to be a great help. That man knows how to win.

Good luck

The biggest single factor is the map. Your very first decision is whether to play it or not after scouting it out as far as you can .

I have played almost every map , but realised that I should have just restarted 95% of them due to the really poor positioning of everything from my colony to VOD and not a cache in sight...scarce resources nearby.. etc.etc.

A good start can make the game for you! (I had a great map today, except the infected decided they could get through an impassable wood late game and it ruined everything).
VEF215 Dec 29, 2017 @ 8:43am
Watch YouTube videos on how to beat it. 90-100 Veteran Snipers by the final wave (use them to clear the entire map of enemies), have as many rows of stone walls as you can, if you have the money drop in extra stone towers they have 2x the health, at least 4-5 executor towers per choke/side, put all your veteran snipers in stone towers near trouble spots and have them target the high health infected. Once a side is cleared, reroute snipers to other trouble areas, and sell unused executor towers to rebuild them in trouble areas.

There is a lot of tutorials around, check vids, check topics, I have some screenshots in my profile from playthroughs that maybe can help you.
The author of this topic has marked a post as the answer to their question.

It's so hard to give focused advice in this game, because the defence of the colony is a holistic thing to get right. So, a few of the things I've learnt along the way so far:

He Who Is Vile Dec 29, 2017 @ 8:52am
I just beat my first run through. I read a few guides, but I effectively found out the best way is to build my city like everything except the core was expendable. Make beefy defenses in small chokepoints, automated towers+Thanatos kill most things, but I assume sniper towers would have been cheaper and taken some pressure off. Behind the far-out chokepoints, I had infrastructure, money money money money money. Right behind those? More walls/towers/thanatos in the next nearest chokepoints. Then money money money. Then another set of walls and towers. Didn't make any Executors until the final wave when I was pretty much in "SPEND EVERYTHING" mode.

Small chokepoint even inside of your city? Build a wall and tower for it. Block off every small path with at least a wall, and when the end comes and you see the enemy pathing through one of your failing defenses, perhaps the wall may save enough time to put up some last-minute defenses to kill them.

Also helps to have a mobile force, I think in mine I had a 10-man squad of Veteran Soldiers who could take out any straggling threats. Rangers were great at clearing a lot of the map, but Soldiers tend to be more bang for the buck when your goal is to kill everything and scouting is done.

Skip traps. Your resources are better spent in every other way imaginable.
Build at least 4 executors per wall section, I always end up building more.
Expand out so that your first line of defense is AT the edge where the horde is coming in. When your front line is at the edge, it leaves very little room for the horde to bunch up, and blob onto your defenses.

Demolish building preemptively. I demolish all farms at the 24 hour final wave signal, and use those resources to build more executors. Same with troop centers.

If you see one of your chokes failing, dont be afraid to demolish all the buildings inside and set up a new defensive line.
