Need help / tips on surviving final battle.
I've lost 3 final wave games now and don't find much of the early game challenging any more. At 100% difficulty.

Every time I change it up a little - dropping Titans and just getting Thanatos instead for example. Improving economy. However after this loss I don't know what to really do. I had a ridiculous economy, somewhere around 90+ snipers, 2+ executors and 2+ Thanatos at every gate (which I had a lot of).

https://i.imgur.com/VJJhiFQ.png

It's always only a single gate that gets broken to in the end. I keep an eye on the map and after a gate is mostly done fighting I unload all from towers and send them on a run to the weakest one, but they just can't reach it in time to help. I know I could have probably won this one by deleting some cottages and making a second stone wall line at the "weak point" for my reinforcements to defend. But still, I feel like I'm doing something wrong because my economy in that game was ridiculous.

I only use rangers, snipers and Thanatos. Executor towers. I don't research a lot of things I don't use (stake, lookout as I go straight to radar, advanced quarry, titan, great ballista this go). During early and mid I promote rangers and snipers and send them to a tower or patrol so they don't leech EXP. Normal swarms are almost never a challenge.

Why no one is ussing those eletrical tower. You know, the ones that can wipe like 30 zombies in one hit? Everybody using executors, IMA they suck. How I get ready for last wave. My deffense is made out of eletrical towers (2) and stone towers with snipers (2-4) and few balistas, but they are there because of early game deffense. And its super easy to defend. All you have to do is place everything corectly, make sure that sniper can cover towers from spitters. And that electrical tower is in front of the wall and has its own wall. And by the way you can win games only with snipers. I had 150 of them facetank one wave on brutal. With no towers or walls. If you have good economy never stop building defens. You will never have enough of them. Make defense line in front of other defense line. Double, triple layers. You have to be 100% they will not go through. I had like 500 snipers at the end.
Use at least two layers of double walls. I used 4 snipers, 2 executoners and 1 thanos per wall, or double that if it was a large section. When each section got cleared of zombies I moved those units to the heaviest mob. As you say; In the end one still broke through but I fought back towards my command centre, destroying buuildings and erecting walls all the way, until a last stand beat them. Was edge of your seat stuff. I don't bother with rangers in anything but the early game, to defend entrances to my settlement.

[edit] Will give the eletrical towers a try next run. I had considered wall, electrical towers, space, wall, wall\sniper towers :)

Ive seen people placing like 30 stone towers around command center with full of snipers and they win games like that. Never tryed that, but I imagine it can work. If you cant focus on all sides, just focus on one spot I guess.

In the dozen or so attempts I've done so far the most important things I noticed are the following:

-Expand as quickly as possible to maximize resource and money income, otherwise you won't get solid enough defenses everywhere before the final wave.

-Postpone upgrading building (except houses) because it increases their energy and gold cost in stupid amounts. So dont upgrade until you really run out of space.

-I only use rangers very early on and swap to snipers asap. Use a mob of them to clear new areas, secure them with a tower + ballista.

-I used to absolutely love the electro shock towers a lot, just like Little Noobito said, but their insane power drain can really stifle your expansion pace and money (since you have to keep building mills)

-Be careful with power plants as they can really hamper your stone income, you NEED a ♥♥♥♥ ton of stone for walls and towers.

One of the major gripes I have with the game right now is that in the final stages you pretty much just vomit towers, walls and ballistas everywhere near the edge of the map. It kind of kills the immersion for me.

What I really miss are ways to design a solid, effective defense against zombies. Like glue cannons to slow zombies, or a flamer upgrade for walls,

Another tip that might get fixed some time soon though: It says lucifers cant flame through walls, but they CAN if you manually tell them to. So if you notice a section of wall having trouble, have a lucifer ready behind it and spam click on the closest enemies. They can be so incredibly powerful vs large mobs of zombies, big and small.

It's tough but try to plan ahead. When the big announcement hits you have 24 hours to prepare. I try to have spots built for the Shock Towers but I don't have the towers IN yet. When the last wave announcement hits, I pause and throw the Shock towers in and then shut down enough production to make up the difference in Power. I mean seriously, you won't really need to be running the Sawmill while your city burns down, right?

I pull back whatever sweep teams I have dashing around but Snipers are slow and don't always make it back.

Looking at the pic I'd say it's fine otherwise but you have too many Executors and not enough Thanatos + walls. I ran map 3 just the other day and won with 2x double walls (traps in the middle), ballistas (no Execs), a few sniper towers & some 3-4 Thanatos per choke. Got a few Lucifers as backup. Not a single section went down.

Executors get wrecked easily by spitters (or maybe harpies?) unless you have enough snipers to deal with them. I figured they're too expensive to get and focused more on solid walls and Thanatos'. Ballistas are handy and cheap. If you've the economy, sure go for Exec but they're not critical IMO.

Edit: Oh yeah 2 more things. It'd help if you could clear the whole map before last wave since the remaining infected all rush you with the final swarm. Another thing is to put all sniper towers into highest level target priority to deal with harpies & spitters. Good luck!

Save money for the final battle, like dont upgrade your towers and stuff before you are near the end. When you have max money build always towers and walls, they dont hurt your income. Dont build more troops than you need to survive to the last wave. When you are about 5 days to last wave start building troops and upgrade your most vital towers. Spread your troops around your base and when one part falls build walls there and move others to help.

So for the final wave, first map on brutal pop day 100 at a typical choke point I had: double double walls, 2 or 3 sniper towers with snipers in them set to target highest priority, 6-7 thanatos, 2 executors, 1 shock tower, and like 8 extra snipers. Out of everything I found towers with snipers in them to be extremely effective, and none of defenses broke at all.

That's the secret really, you need some way to kill spitters, spitters are what wreck all your ♥♥♥♥ up. Sniper towers are by far the easiest way to deal with them I've found. Most chokes I only had 2 sniper towers but for my next run I'd make sure to have 3 in all spots just to really seal the deal for sure on the spitter population. After spitters are down all you need is some decent aoe, weather that be lucifers, shock towers, or thanatos, I'd build at least 1 of these types, I think thanatos are the easiest to use though.

And more walls to the chokepoints , you can also spam empty towers to block em just spam walls everywhere, that will slow em down :)

Here's how to win.

Go to your headquarters. Evaluate every defense in every direction and assess whether it is capable of stopping an endgame horde.

3 Executor towers aren't enough. 3 + A shock tower and 4 or so sniper towers can do it if it's a defensible area which forces the horde into a smaller line.

I was forced to defend my base over two very stretched out areas in my last game. I had to spam snipers out of 3 barracks over the entire game as well as spam executor towers along the entirety of each wall. I literally ended up building probably 40 of them overall and also spammed towers for sniper nests wherever I could fit them.

This next part is important: *clear the entire map!* During the final wave every zombie left on the map will head for your base. If you miss an area which includes a village of doom you're essentially fighting two waves on one front. I usually start scouting out the map as soon as I have snipers to spare and then towards the end of the game I set them to 'chase down' infected which will ensure the map is clean.

As a side note just because you clear the map it doesn't mean you are safe from random zombie attacks. They seem to spawn in random directions at timed intervals and head straight for your base seperate from the zombie hordes.

The spitters will attack your towers behind walls so you need a hell of a lot of snipers set to kill highest level infected to defend them. You can also pause the game and individually target the spitters if you aren't confident they can auto-kill enough fatties to also take down the spitters.

My last tip is to use blade traps. They're essentially another wall which the infected have to break through. They're very tanky and give you a lot of time to thin out a horde. Super important for your weakest defended area.

Also if you're running your economy effectively you want to be sat at at least 2k gold income for most of the game. Build your walls, blade traps etc. during this time because they don't cost any upkeep and just make sure you have enough defenses for the hordes at the current time.

Hope that helped.

Electric towers/thanatos = target closest.
Snipers/towers/execturos = target highest level.

It Also helps if you have a few titans. They move fast and can reinforce the points that need help.
Have 2+ lines of defence. Retreat units to second line before getting them killed.

Use pause.

Nope, with "highest" there might be a chance, that he fires into the middle of the crowd. With "closest" he will always hits the weak zombies hitting the walls.

But isn't that better? If the Thanatos' bomb the guys hitting your wall, there'll be (almost) nobody "alive" to actually hit it. If you target highest lv, the weaklings can chip away your walls and make a breakthrough easier.
I'd use target priority like Vultan suggested to get rid of spitters/harpies with pinpoint accuracy and mass AoE against the major horde.

I didn't see anyone else say it. Build your city in walled sections so you have something to fall back to. That image looks like one massive open air metropolis. That's a killing field.
