Right now, it's hard to say either way if Fortress of Hell will be relevant to the new trilogy--but since it's set after the events of Laxius Force, I would guess that at least some elements of it will come into play! Plus it's not a very long game, and fun, too--so if you're looking to kill time before Laxius Soul potentially releases next month, you can't go wrong with FoH, haha.
The Laxius Force trilogy alone is actually $29.99 + $24.99 + $15 (and it was released more than 13 years ago so adjusting for inflation the third game is actually more expensive than LS).
<<And from the screenshots it appears to be more of fan-service and a re-hashing of what fans of the series are nostalgic for in the previous game than true sequel.>>
Not at all, it's the first game of the third "official" trilogy.
It's a more important installment than Fortress of Hell or even 3 Stars of Destiny.
<<I will admit though that the new map tiles and enemy sprites do look pretty good, since I'm assuming they used RPG Maker MV or possibly even MZ to make it.>>
Thanks!
