Is there any reason NOT to use the heavy/goliath armor sets?
So far I havent seen a reason to use anything else. Assuming core power isn't an issue, looking at just the stats, the other armor classes like operator are incredibly inferior.

Less damage bonuses, less overall armor, what reason is there to use these? And its not just a small discrepancy, its like 300% more armor between the heavy and light armor pieces.

Can anyone explain the reasoning for using them? I didnt notice a significant difference in mobility. In goliath armor I can still evade boss/enemy attacks entirely and consistently. Every time I have used them the only notable difference Ive seen is that enemy attacks cause significantly more damage, yet it doesn't feel like its any easier to evade despite that. Seems like a raw deal.

Heavy armors gives stamina penalties [chest piece], light armor give stamina bonuses [chest piece], so you can attack more times, dodge ect, other then that and higher power cost, heavier armors are superior to light ones.

I was struggling with low armor sets, decided to try out the Rhino with a hammer, me smash now.

Considering a combination of sufficient upgrades and the right implants can mitigate or nullify the apparent disadvantages of the heavier armor, I'd call it a matter of player preference.

I'm convinced the difference was more pronounced in the first game; maybe I'm recalling wrong, but I never touched MG Cerberus or other Goliath sets in the first, this one I've used URBN since I discovered it up until the Cerberus set became available.

Heavy Head / Arms and Light Chest / Legs generally give the best bonuses while the inverse tends to give penalties

Light armor may allow for a quicker offensive with some weapons, but you might lose a lot of impact in the process. You'll also have a little more stamina overall if you have a preference for dodging.

Gear set bonuses would be the last thing I can think. Where if you like a gear set bonus offered by operator armor (e.g. I have an affinity for Wraith granting +10 drone ammo and restoring ammo as batteries increase to maintain the drone mage playstyle). Some may allow for a different type of offensive playstyle, but often with low impact. If you find that you're not getting hit between parrying consistently and evading, you might peek into if any operator set bonuses can offer any offensive advantages to your play style.

I highly recommend sticking to arms/head only if you want to use goliath gear, and stick to either of the two lighter tiers for chest/legs. This will maximize weapon impact and damage while reducing as much damage and stamina consumption as possible, and if you stick to the same sets allows for two 3 piece partial set bonuses.

Is stamina consumption generally an issue for people? I haven’t had problems and my attack timing is not that great (properly timed attack strings use less stamina for those that didn’t know). I’m more of a dodger than blocker maybe that’s why.

In the first game, I got by just fine with light armor...in this game, heavy armor makes fights more tolerable for me :P. The stamina penalty isn't even an issue since I normally just do a couple jabs before keeping my distance (that, and heavy armors give some leeway to experiment with parries without eating a ridiculous hit).

i use the one that makes finishing not require battery and more scrap from kills most of the time

Armour balance was weird in The Surge. Sentine armour - the middle class - had overall the highest protection with Goliath being weaker but offering more stability and and impact in theory. They seem to have swapped that around and gone for a more traditional armour class weighing, with Operator offering the least, Sentinel being in the middle and Goliath offering the heaviest protection.

Personally, I feel it's a matter of what you prefer. Lighter armour sets - sepecially Lynx - tend to be faster and more agile while larger armour sets need to either build your character for it or deal with it. I'm personally a "tank" guy, so I deliberately choose the slowest, most cumbersome armour and weapons.

cerberus head and arm iron mous body and leg then all ur problem with heavy armor is gone
cerberus arm + 10 get +25% impact and -1 atk speed ridicult op
and iron mouse leg cost less stamina than any operator leg
the only problem of mix armor is they look wierd

stamina penalty shouldn't be a problem if you time your attacks right and don't spam the attack button. Like Surge 1 stamina usage is halved if you do it right, though I've noticed a bug where the stamina bar doesn't flash doesn't flash if you do time an attack right.

The Black Cerberus armour set in general feels really overpowered. It offers MASSIVE amounts of protection well in excess of everything else and it doesn't come with very many real drawbacks. I get that it's a "late game" set which only shows up towards the Great Wall, but still.

I choose armour based on the set bonuses.
My favorite were as they became available vultr for no battery cost on finishing moves, A.I.D. Polaris Set, spark engineer and spark fanatic for electricity build and because they were cool.
I have used nano-ward set to kill delver the first time around and 3 parts of technogenesis for last boss for nano protection.
