Average day in Frankfurt

A good souls, with an enjoyable thematic futuristic, tons of weapons and armors and if you like a lot one of them you can upgrade it the same with the weapons, you can save the scraps (currency) in the "base", and is better than the first one.

An hour in and I'm starting to be concerned for the multitude of of positive reviewers for this game. For one thing, the game has repeatedly randomly crashed on me, which is particularly annoying if the game hasn't autosaved in a while, and even when it's running fine, neither the story nor gameplay is particularly captivating.

The story is poorly delivered (a part of the soulsborne series you really didn't need to copy); the "little girl" VA is a bit grating on the ears; and the initial hostility against other prison inmates after you awoken from a coma seems poorly explained, apart from that one random inmate you help out of his cell seemingly for no reason other than the game told you to. The protagonist you create doesn't seem to have any personality or discernable motivations apart from "follow the game's objective list blindly".

Gameplay-wise the combat isn't great, the game states that you can do horizontal and vertical attacks but doesn't tell you the significance in doing one over the other; there's some sort of charged attack by holding down the attack button, but it doesn't seem to do more damage or conserve more stamina than just rapidly spamming attacks; I've only used 2 weapons so far and both their movesets seems very uninspiring, there's not much nuance to combat more than spamming attacks while keeping an eye on the stamina bar to periodically back off; I despise the limb targetting which feels like a knock-off V.A.T.S from Fallout, and mostly just a chore to do for armored enemies, and doesn't actually affect the actual combat gameplay or moveset; the beginning human enemies also seems really bad at going on the offensive and actually hitting you, and you can indefinitely just keep your distance against them while they swing into air, which is somewhat concerning because these are regular humans and not pitiful husks/undead creatures like those in Dark Soul's starting areas (hopefully enemies in later areas are better programmed).

Most other elements seems to rip off dark souls, like the medbay which is now the bonfire where you level up and increase one of your 3 stats by a miniscule amount, also where you save and respawn after dying; scraps are exp resource you use to level up, which drops and needs to be retrieved upon death; there's a "fog wall" in front of boss areas if you died and trek back to their area; there are garbage graffiti all over the place from other players which are visual clutter and doesn't help with anything, which you can "rate up" if you like visual clutter, which I'm assuming is ripping off Dark Souls' messages from other players.

Update: enemies are still comboing wildly into thin air; you can apparently just run past most hostile enemies, even those guarding areas from trespassers while wielding guns, and they'll follow you ineffectively for a bit and casually go back to neutral when they reach the edge of their invisible box. The two attack buttons can combo in some ways that is opaque and horrendously unintuitive; attacking armored areas with the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ targetting system is apparently preferable for scraps and parts, as if it isn't more logical to kill them efficiently by hitting unarmored areas and loot their undamaged gears afterwards, or even just cut off their limbs post-mortem. Writing-wise, nothing really signals how shallow the game is than the dialogue options: "I'm one of the good guys" and "I'm bad to the bone", when you just woke up from a coma, don't know what's going on, and have been on a murder and mutilation spree since you woke up.

Update 2: beat Little John and Brother Eli, tried more weapons, practiced parrying and whatnot; attacks combos are still unintuitive garbage, despise the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ targetting system even more, don't understand why the game is so bad in teaching it's basic systems. Don't understand why the solution to Little John is so poorly communicated I had to use external guides. Don't understand why there are misleading EMP panels in the boss arena when it isn't a part of the solution. There are difficult games and then there are poorly designed games, this is just the latter. Please stop leaving positive reviews for garbage games, people might make the mistake of purchasing them.
