Dies irae ~Acta est fabula~ doesn't launch
So yeah, I've completed all the routes and all the Other Stories for that matter, tried launching Dies irae ~Acta est fabula~ with region set in japanese and still there's no way for it to work, here's a screenshot if it helps. http://es.tinypic.com/view.php?pic=b8whsk&s=9#.Wjb9_FXiaUk

Could you try briefly running the Steam version while in Japanese locale? That should create a new save directory with a slightly different name. Copy all your old saves into it. Then try running the 18+ version again.

I don't see any new save directory when I launch Steam in Japanese locale, even if I change the locale language of my computer or by running LocateEmulator. It should be in the same place that's shown in the screenshot right? The game still doesn't launch even if I do that.

You have to run the actual VN in Japanese locale, not just Steam.

I know, it's what I did in the first place but it will not launch, from what I've seen in reddit there are other people that also have this issue but it doesn't seem that anyone has been able to find a fix for it. https://www.reddit.com/r/visualnovels/comments/7k4jnv/dies_irae_acta_est_fabula_18_version_released/

You already ran Amantes Amentes (NOT to be confused with Acta Est Fabula) in Japanese locale? And no new save directory appeared at the same location as the one for Amantes Amentes?

Yeah, the problem when I run Amantes Amentes in Japanese locale is that it becomes impossible to save, and even after I finish a route by skipping Acta est fabula still doesn't launch, and by the time I open Amantes Amentes again with Japanese locale the opening still appears again with everything lost.

And yeah, I don't see any new save directory appearing, because it doesn't really save as I said probably.

Okay, now that's really bizarre. I don't know if this is actually possible, but it sounds like either your OS or your file system doesn't support directories with the character "〜". Does it look like a fullwidth tilde to you? It's basically a longer version of a "~".

How do you run something with a Japanese Locale?

What OS are you using?

It looks a bit weird, not like how it should look in the last case, does that mean it doesn't support that character? I'm using Windows 7 btw.

EDIT: If I copy the character in Google I can see it better tan reading it in Steam, basically I see it the same just being more big than the last.

Ok, so I got an email of Light after sending them an email some days ago about the problem and they told me that other people also have this problem and that they are currenlty working to solve the problem, they asked for my specs so in case it helps I'll post it here as well.

Intel (R) Core (TM) i5-4690 CPU @ 3.50 GHz, 3501 Mhz

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960

Windows 7

There's no need to worry if the character just looks a bit off in Steam. That's the case for me as well. Many fonts don't support it, so I'd assume Steam has to fall back to an alternate one to display it.

What matter is that you can see it. I don't know if this is still the case on modern systems, but an old Windows XP PC of mine without support for Eastern languages couldn't display it at all until I installed some fonts that supported it.

Could you try using this character as a directory's name? If that works, then could you tell me the exact name your save directory for Dies irae has?
Sephilar Dec 27, 2017 @ 12:37pm
Ok I did one as you said using the character, the one that says "〜Dies Irae TESTING〜". It seems it works fine.

https://ibb.co/kJAu4w

The name of the directory of Dies Irae is the one called Dies irae ~Amantes amentes~, what's inside is what you can see in the screenshot of the first post.

I'm not talking about its main directory, but its save directory. Its name is supposed to be "Dies irae ~Amantes amentes~", but due to a text encoding bug, it ends up being something else if the engine runs in non-Japanese locale. For me, it's "Dies irae `Amantes amentes`".

Could you check if your save directory also has an incorrect name? If it does, make a copy and name it "Dies irae ~Amantes amentes~". My guess is that the 18+ patch always expects the save data to be there, so if it isn't, it refuses to work.
