Only read a few of the H-scenes after reading the whole thing without the 18+ patch. From a storytelling perspective, the ones I read were utterly worthless. Just extremely generic and overextended porn writing. I'm glad I didn't use the 18+ patch on my first run. These scenes would've had a disastrous effect on the pacing.

From what I've heard, Kei's H-scenes are supposedly better than this, but the rest of them are just as bad.

If you don't plan to read the H-scenes for their intended purpose, I'd avoid them entirely.

As far as I remember, the patch consists only of an additional asset pack and executable. It doesn't overwrite anything, so the non-ero version can still be used even with it installed.

The only route that I would definitively say is improved by the presence of the H scenes would be Kei's route.

But you absolutely don't want to play the 18+ version first. The 18+ version doesn't have the side stories present in the all-ages release (which you want to read at specific points in the storyline), and it's also missing an entire ending (Mitsudomoe) from the final route.
