HMP Offshore: Call of Snooty; Cannot find string?

I've been trying to do the Call of Snooty escape(Dolphin), but I'm unable to find the string necessary to make the rod. I've been going for a cumulative 30 days now across multiple saves. I check all the inmates, their desks, the guards desks, the desks around the oil rig. I cycle through as many favors as possible. I check all the shops. I simply cannot find it.

Is there a specific place you are supposed to find string?

Couldn't find the string on the map anywhere. I ended up just refusing quests until one came up for a makeshift double-bass or something else that requires a string. Then you can just take the string and cancel the quest.

Thanks for the replies. I've combed the roofs and basement areas of map for extra desks. I've checked the maintenance and medical room desks as well. I'm beginning to think there is some kind of special gimmick with this level(like how Anomaly has batteries that only drop from guards).

I've tried the favour route, but I can't seem to get a crafting favour to show up. I always get beatdown, mule, delivery driver, and location location. I'm beginning to wonder if this is bugged. All of my location location favours lack any item. They show up as blank favours that cannot be completed. This seems to persist across saves.

I'm still holding out hope that there is some string somewhere on this level. I'm going to look into checking the multiplayer desks.

All right, I figured I should follow this up now that I've finally completed it. I put the game down for a while and came back to tackle this.

It took me 3 days of canceling favors, at which point I finally got the bass guitar Crafty! one. I grabbed the string and ran to assemble the rod. However, I accidentally canceled the favor, which deleted the string. It took me another 10 days of canceling favors to get another bass guitar favor. Got it, made the rod, made another red key, and cleared Snooty's escape.

So, if you're looking to do this one, just be prepared to do a lot of grinding.This can't be the intended way you are supposed to solve this. It feels like they forgot to put string into the item drop table for this prison. It feels convoluted using this method.

Anyway, good luck to anyone else going for this. It was hands down the most troublesome escape I've done.

Congrats on finally escaping, Just so you know nothing is guaranteed to spawn which means that you can play the game for 2 irl days straight and even then nothing will spawn, whenever I start getting desperate for items my Freind joins and lets me get access to Coop areas for extra loot

It usually spawns in the infirmary desk , just craft a medic outfit and you can take it easily.

The items that require string that you can get from quests are the makeshift double base, the musical washboard, and the candle. However I was having the same issue but I was eventually able to find a string in the medic desk on the same floor as the job office. Ironically, as I was running back to my cell, I found a downed inmate who was also carrying string.

THANKS! This is the right way to do it! It worked for me on the 3rd day.

You can also find medic stuff that does not spawn anywhere else. Clearly the desk possible items spawn change according to their location. Same thing with the circuit board for example. I never found it on the cells, but it seems to spawn frequently on the east building top floor. This should be on the game wiki.
