Game is getting claimed on Youtube for it's title screen music
Has anybody had this happen to them? One of my videos about the game is getting claimed on Youtube by HAAWK for a 3rd Party On behalf of: AlexGuz.

I've tried to contact the devs via twitter and their support email and got nothing. I'm just trying to figure out if this a legit claim or some screw up with a licensed piece by them and how to dispute it if necessary.

it depends on the licence terms for the music. Music can have different licence agreements and it can get a bit confusing what is and isnt allowed. I am assuming in this case the copyright claim is by the producer for the title music of this game, Depending on what contract was signed with BCS he may have legal rights to the music still and will have the power to stop any reproduction of the music outside of this game. so the claim is most likely legitimate.

In some rare circumstances a piece of music is licensed to more than one client and client A can lay copyright claims on Youtube for the music even when client B paid for the licence so both have the same contract and rights to use it, just sometimes people like to be jerks and think because they paid for a license nobody else can use it and Youtube is none the wiser. I doubt the title music for this game is used in other media as I have never heard it outside of this game.

Another case is the music uses sampled work that somebody else made or uses, even something such as a guitar stem which makes up only part of the song can trigger copyright claims if somebody has the right to that particular stem, again this is not that common.

Anyway I license music myself except mine is produced under contract from a client, once complete the entire work is theirs to use as they see fit, I lose all ability to claim copyright on it and my name is never used as a credit as that is the terms agreed upon, I get paid a nice sum so I don't complain. its my job.

YouTube's copyright system is the wreck of a mile-long locomotive full of burning dumpsters filled with dirty diapers from a neighborhood that just had the "Baby Curry Challenge."

Unfortunately, it's working as intended and the only way for it to change is if Congress actually did something useful about the DMCA and copyright in general.
