1. Bugs, bugs, bugs. Items clipping through counters and crap like that. Today I picked up a cutting board and could't put it down or throw it or go to the options menu or anything. Had to ctrl + alt + dlt the game losing a whole days work. One of my cabinet doors also disappeared and I cant repair it.
2. The cutting is extremely difficult to get measurements correct unless you're just quartering something. If you don't cut things exactly it will count against your score on a dish, but it's almost impossible to cut certain things exactly to measurement.
3. Flipping things with a spatula is janky as hell and usually takes several tries.
Positives:
1. The game is very enjoyable when it's not being janky. Making different kinds of unique dishes is just plain fun. And there are quite a few of them.
2. The graphics are very nice. Not like OMG! THESE ARE AMAZING! But just very solid.
3. The progression system in career mode feels very rewarding. Advancing to new levels and unlocking new dishes is exciting. You can also spend your progression points on abilities like being able to run, more time to prepare food, etc.
4. When you begin career mode there are a couple different kitchens you can choose from, one that is modern, and one that's more old school looking. You can also unlock decorations for your kitchen such as halloween stuff, 4th of july, etc.
Honestly the game can be kind of frustrating at times but I do find it enjoyable, so I lean more towards suggesting it, especially if you can grab it on sale. Don't own any of the DLCs though so I can't comment on those.
1.
Drizzling could be better explained but with a 50ml ladel it gets easier.
Burger mechanics/building burger - really could use that cocktail stick.
2.
Genuine feeling of progression and buildup of urgency.
Very well balanced between realism and gameplay
Genuinely gratifying when you get it right.
As for the burger mechanics, isn't there a skewer? Never tried it so I don't know if it works on burgers.
I did not know that is what it was for nor did I know that was the "improved burger mechanics" the game does absolutely NOTHING to let you know about this.
That being said - it means that my gripe is arguably moot.
Thx Jacob!
1. Salmon is never cooked right. Then I found out it was a bug and they fixed it as soon as they heard of it! This *WAS* a bad point because I thought it was intentional but it's cool when developers care, and they fixed it very quickly when they heard of it on steam comments. Awesome!
2. I thought the dlc was stupid and expensive, then I bought the game and then I bought the DLC because I realized it has a lot of time spent on a new kitchen and new game mode that fits it. The kitchen in cakes and cookies is really very cozy and just feels nice to hang out in and play the game my way. It feels like a lot of love and care in it. It's the kinda thing that inspires me to make my own 3d art. Looking forward to next dlc.
(especially because I have nostalgia for an old game called pizza tycoon)
3. There's a shedload of recipes and it's pretty awesome.
4. It's really addictive, I couldn't tell you why.
5. It doesn't completely hand hold you, you can figure out your own best ways for doing stuff like chopping taters in a machine or figuring out what the heck to use the burger flipper grill for. You can batch make soups and stuff in prep time or when you please. There's kinda an exploration factor
Things that I hate
1. The cookie and cakes DLC shows clear improvement in the game mode flow. It has a phone menu that is always with you and does all the stuff you need to run to a box to do in the main game mode. Why do I hate this, you ask? Because while it's amazing to see the developer improve their game, it only applies to the DLC, I feel like it's an absolute definitive improvement and I'd like to see a game mode for the base game to incorporate these progressions, more of an expansion then just having them as an island for the dlc
2. There might be lots of recipes for the normal foods, but this ties into point one, I'd really like to make them in a cakes and cookies style environment, and take my time to make them perfect and accept the orders that I want to accept in a nice kitchen, without rushing (cooking studio isnt bad, but not quite there)
3. The mechanics get a tiny bit overrated and grating the more you play. Making the food is fun but do I really wanna fiddle with spatula / tongs flipping something for the 200'th time, do I really wanna ice 30 cupcakes when it'd be nice if you could just do the move once to initiate a batch icing move. And why do people buy black burned donuts? Reee
4. A lot of the perks you buy when you level up just sorta exist to circumnavigate valid mechanics by completely removing them. Example : ignoring hot food when you pick it up. It's really annoying and good to get around it but it's also sorta boring to just delete parts of the game and not feel like you're gaining something fun
