I think it's because Alchemists treat their spells as potions for personal use.
Yeah, you need the Infusion discovery. At 2nd level, and then again, every 2 levels thereafter (up to 18th level), an alchemist makes an incredible alchemical discovery.
Infusion
Infusion discovery allows an alchemist to use his extracts not only on himself but on other people as well. With this discovery, all alchemist extracts will behave exactly like spells with same names when considering targets and range.
I then took Infusion at 2nd level and can now cast my spells on party members. Although they still display as personal, even though I can affect others.
