Everblooming flower root

At the end of Chapter 2, you are given an option to preserve a part of the everblooming flower (petal or root). Is there any advantage to do so?

Please no major, direct endgame spoilers, haven't finished the game yet.

Does it unlock a curse research project? Does it change a main quest?

2. no, you don't need all curses to be reseached

2. Yes too. All curses (13+) researched are one of demands for Secret (Best aka True) Ending. (achievement included ofk)
