Full Voice Overs?
I know this may seem pretty minor, but I've always disliked reading boxes upon boxes of text. Does this game have full voice overs? Their full 3D counterparts always have this, which is harder of course with syncing lip movements and stuff.

No it doesnt. Voice acting is expensive and pretty much only larger companies with bigger development budgets can afford to voice every line in a large RPG like this - there's a reason BG3 stands out the way it does

Adding voice acting to video games isn't easy. There is the main sound hurdle everyone deals with, and in addition everything has to be coded so each sound file triggers at the right moment.

Lets talk about the that main sound hurdle. A massively huge problem that is yet to be fixed is for overall best, and most consistent sound quality everything needs to be handled by the same sound studio. If they don't own a professional sound studio that means renting one, and getting all voice actors there in a timely fashion. Which would require voice acting to be conducted after all story content is finished, or calling the same voice actors back to the same sound studio for each DLC... as you can probably guess this quickly turns into a logistical nightmare. It likely isn't going to go away anytime soon ether. With our current level of technology defying this process would be like someone trying to erase all personal touches from every electronic, and mechanical device they owned over a 10 year span.

Like I said in order to be conducted smoothly the story has to be finished before the voice acting starts. Well now that they know how the sound files are structures they have to add compatible triggers to every line of dialog, add in the correct file to be triggered, and test that the whole thing works. Even when the written, and spoken lines are formatted to easily be matched up this is an absolutely mind numbing manual process.

It's funny how we are all built differently. I totally hate voice acting in CRPGs. Shut the hell up and let me read 😂

A big part of it for me is when something has a bigger budget they're usually attempting to cater to the lowest common denominator of fans, which leaves it feeling like a Twitch stream with often mediocre writing. That's fine, and fun in its one way, but I typically prefer for a CRPG to feel like a novel woven into the gameplay.

If all the voice acting amounted to a game equivalent of an epic (epic not "ePiC, bruh") theater or opera, that could be amazing. What we have though is more akin to "Hey, hey, hey FAM! In today's episode of the Horny Bears of Faerun we have immersion breaking dice rolls, and MORE immersion breaking dice rolls! Let the memes ROLL in by hitting 'f' in chat to pay respect to Gale who blew (hurhur 'blew') himself up for teh memes."

A good example of immersion breaking voice acting is Pillars of Eternity 2. As much as I love that game, I can't stand one more "Aye Cap' " or "Galarde!"

I had to mute all those SoB because I had enough.

Thanks for the feedback everybody! Yeah it's interesting how some dont want voice overs and some do. There's no wrong or right answer, just personal preference. I decided to pass on this game and go with Solasta. So far so good!

However I admittedly dont really get into these D&D type games. Tried Baldurs Gate 3 and only got about 1/4th the way through the game. Same with the Divinity series, they just feel overly complicated.

This one is considerably more complicated vs BG3, so probably not the best fit in that way either tbh.

Jesus, Pathfinder games are pretty much THE most complicated CRPGs out there.
