The Fog (WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!?)
We all know that the kingdom sim part of the game is unbelievably bad. Just when you think you've got things under control, the games throw something stupid at you to tank your stats. Well I think hit the absolute wall with The Fog. My +20 General has a 5% chance of solving the problem. FIVE PERCENT!!! Meanwhile every week I take a hit to my stats and now it's causing a hit to my kingdom to fall back to Worried after I just managed to get out of the hole.

Who exactly decided on this formula and who thought that a 5% chance to beat an event that can and will DESTORY YOUR KINGDOM was fair?

I've been trying so hard to enjoy this game but I'm getting close to yeeting it from my computer.

Yeah Pathfinder Kingmaker still has these moments, when you just want to smash your display. I don't remember that particular event since i'm just getting back to kingmaker but if all else fails, you can always turn your kingdom management to indestrucible. Not to my liking as well but better then starting all over again or uninstalling the game, since it's still a gem, with some rough edges though. I've played and love all three owlcat titles but balancing was never one of their strength, unless you are one of these guys, who know the rules in and out and manage to break the game with some weird builds.

um, 5% with a "+20" general (what does that mean : 50 strength ???? or level 10 Army thing) seems really low

Are you at the last chapter ?

Otherwise, it probably means you are really behind in tackling the main quest / upgrading your kingdom...

Or both
What were they thinking? That if you wanted a cake walk you'd have set kingdom management to storybook or indestructible

When you were in Chapter 2, Troll Trouble, you got events that hit you every so often that were like "Trolls are pillaging our villages!" and you have to put an advisor on them. Those events will get more difficult to solve and will happen faster and faster until your kingdom fails if you don't leave the capital and go after the trolls. Once you defeat Hargulka and Tartuk to solve the problem at it's source, the troll events stop, and that is the only way to make them stop. In Chapter 3, it's magical beasts. In chapter 4 its undead cyclopes, etc. Nyrissa is trying to destroy your kingdom, and she tries harder as time goes on. These events are designed to make you get up off your butt and defeat the end boss of the chapter as soon as possible. You shouldn't stay home and try to solve them diplomatically like a juggler trying to juggle an ever-increasing number of heavier and heavier bowling pins, and you shouldn't waste any time doing side quests. You do those AFTER you defeat the main boss of the chapter you're in. Right now you need to get to the Castle of Knives and go through the portal to fight the boss fight, and if you don't even know where that is or haven't done any of the encounters in the Thousand Voices area yet, then you've been too complacent and will likely just die of kingdom failure before you can advance the story far enough, probably.

As soon as you did the Rushlight Tournament, you should have proceeded to clear as much of the western map around the city of Pitax (Pitax itself won't let you in yet) as possible before then going into Nyrissa's dreams and getting the quest to go to Whiterose Abbey. What you find in Whiterose Abbey gets you into the city of Pitax, ultimately, which you can then clear. When you get back home after clearing Pitax and defeating Irovetti, you can annex Pitax. After that you need to go clear the Thousand Voices area (the mountain area west of Pitax), and then do your last rank-ups so that once you get the last Bald Hill fight done against the Jabberwock, you can then proceed directly to the Castle of Knives and go through the portal to the First World and continue the story from there. Once that last Bald Hill fight pops, unbeatable "OH NO! NOT THE FOG!!!" events will happen like every day until you go back to The Castle of Knives and jump through the portal there. Once the Fog events start happening, you basically cannot do any more rank-ups or region upgrades, because those advance time by like 7 days at that point, and that means auto-failing seven Fog events in a row, if not more. I think they start popping up more than one event per day by then.

So right after you fight the last Bald Hill event, you need to go directly to The Castle of Knives and continue the main story. If you have Teleportation Circles and a village in Glenebon, you can teleport to a point that's probably not more than 2 days march away from the Castle of Knives, and so you shouldn't lose TOO much of your kingdom to The Fog in the travel time. Once you jump into the portal, you go into the First World once again, and time effectively stops. Kingdom management is no longer a thing anymore, it's just over. While you're in the First World, your kingdom stats are locked in. The kingdom stats from this point onward are whatever they were when you made the leap, and you will not gain or lose anything for the kingdom while you're there.
The Fog is an event well before the endgame. It's just one of those that, without experience, looks just like any other event. Then, it starts to deal kingdom state damage every week or so (and it takes multiple weeks to resolve it).

This is one of the events you use crisis points for. That 5%* becomes 80% is you use three (or 100% if you use four - recommended).

* 5% (or any listed percentage) usually underestimates the real chance since it doesn't take into account various kingdom circumstance bonuses (or penalties) for certain rolls. The listed percentage is based solely on the event difficuty for the choses advisor and that advisor's modifier. Buildings such as Bulletin Boards (and numerous other effects) aren't included.

That isn't "The Fog" referenced by OP - at least, I don't think it is.

Regardless, I just want to point out that these series of events do end. Although it's impossible to address all of them, it's only a guaranteed fail for some of them (not enough eligible advisors to handle them all). Kingdom states take a hit, but it shouldn't be enough to cause complete kingdom failure (and end of game). Plus, there seems to be a limited number of them. They stop after that (might resume again later, but there's no reason to wait that long).

Like all of the ancient curse quests, it's necessary to go to the council meeting afterwords to "green check success" the Ancient Curse 7 quest. Entering the Castle of Knives point-of-no-return portal before attending that council meeting will cause "red X fail" for Ancient Curse 7. Not a big deal, but it's also not a big deal to wait around a bit to get the green check.

At least, that's what I remember. I don't know if I have saved games reasonably placed to verify (and don't feel the need to check - at least, not yet).
