You could be a Fighter (or some kind of martial build) and simply have an Alchemist cast Dragonkind I on you.
You could be a pure Sorcerer or Wizard and eventually get up to Dragonkind III, taking advantage of the breath and fear more than the physical attacks. Or then use the Transformation spell to make better use of physical attacks.
Or anything in between the two... and there are many possibilities. So it comes down to how you'd like play before the Dragonkind spell/ability comes online, and what strengths of the dragon form you'd like to take advantage of once it does.
Do you weant to be a Sorcerer who can turn into a dragon, but primarily slings spells around?
Or do you want to be a melee smasher, who can cast some spells for self-buffing?
Well, you still get spells at the same rate as Dragon Disciple, you turn into a dragon faster, you get huge buffs to your strength and your constitution as well as natural armor that you wouldn't otherwise get.
You'd really only use the magus exclusively if you really want to get the enhance weapon skill boosted.
Being a dragon-bloodline sorcerer will be primarily a spell-caster who could turn into a dragon and would have less reason to turn into a DD than a magus who wades into melee.
Focus on what you want to accomplish and reverse engineer from there.
I do like the idea of a melee focused character who can use magic & the whole turning in to a dragon thing sounds very cool.
So magus is the class most likely to fit your approach, and trying to go dragon disciple will make you better at all of the above. Dragon Disciple is one of the best advanced classes too.
EDIT: You'll miss out on 10 levels of magus so the last half of your class features won't be a big part of your build but that will really depend on if you use sorcery points to enhance your weapons and the type of armor you wear.
Thanks for the recommendation. Do you know of any sites where I can find a Magus/Dragon Disciple build and/or if there is a build planner website for Kingmaker?
There are. I don't know any since I haven't looked any up.
When you level up, look at the skill requirements and what level of spells you need to be able to cast before you get the level you need to go Dragon Disciple. Magus will be a higher level than Sorcerer for the leveled spell requirement.
