Everyone in your group has already fail that check so they need to level up and rank up perception for them to have a retry
But you can try this now
- Create a manual save just in case this method doesn't work and you don't waste in game time.
- Level up Jeathal if she is not a regular of your main group and try to pick skill focus perception.(optional).
- Equip her with perception boost item like the google sold in town.
- Leave capital and bring at least Amiri + Jeathal
- Quick save far enough of the Hogar lair so that you don't trigger the perception check by accident.
- Move toward hogar lair and quickload if you find nothing. Personally, i will give up after 10+ try...
(If Jeathal is part of your main group, use someone(s) else on the sideboard with high perception.)

Hey Mork, is this the same with, say, the Abandoned Hut in the first chapter, if you forget to ask Jhod about it? I once had a character whose sole purpose was to be a max PER archaeologist, skill focus and all, and he had forgotten to ask Jhod before releasing him, but even after speaking with him at Oleg's and later levelling up, my eagle-eyed dude couldn't find it. It's possible that I botched, but I'd like to be certain, at least.
I'm pretty sure the DC to find the quest item letter in the Abandoned Hut is 1. We ''normally'' cannot fail it, but i have seen game breaking bug reports about it.
I never try to not ask Jhod about it but if he is the trigger of the bug... then that could be patched and fixed. I will try it next time i play to see if i can trigger the bug.
To clarify, it's not about finding the letter. It's about not finding the Abandoned Hut at all :) Played several characters that could not reveal it on the map, because I let him free immediately.
Oh i see... that is a new bug to me. I'm very not sure if the Abandoned Hut can be found with perception alone. But if it can be found with a perception check, then yes, the method above will work.
I will try it next time...
You sure you're on the right thread? Your rant seems kind of out from left field. Op is not being "whiny" at all really. Just asking a question.
Also, if you've seen it all before, I think it may be time to unsubscribe from these discussions. A steam discussions board is not the place to come for FRESH NEW CONTENT.
It's like sobbing because three people reported the same bug. Woe is you, right? Vile.
