I recently managed it with only moderate stealth, two invis potions, a single fight with a lone redcap and a fight with the wolves.
This whole ordeal isn't too bad once you're prepared for it, but (like a lot of this game) it feels obnoxious at first.
Thanks for your help, and now I hope I won't see this location again :-)
But there's a lot you do to increase your chances if you take the time to think things through and plan ahead. The first step is to fully explore Verdant in advance with your complete party to familiarize yourself with the area, making sure your MC can handle the skill checks needed to make a quick escape once you eventually return alone. If you can't handle those checks, work on changing your build and/or finding the right buffs/items so you can. Alternatively, focus on stealth and make sure your stealth skill + items/buffs is high enough that you can successfully sneak around tough monsters with vanish/invisibility. If you can't do that either, then as a last resort, have your MC solo a few tough encounters (random encounters will do) to ensure he's capable of defeating tough monsters alone.
If you come up empty on all of these, don't initiate the encounter at Verdant until you level up (or skill up) enough that you can check one of those boxes. The absolute worst thing you can do is to arrive alone and initiate what will clearly be an ambush without having done any prep work and with no clear exit strategy in mind. If you do that then you're liable to either lower the difficulty level to grab an unearned win or conclude the problem lies with the devs for creating such an unreasonable encounter. Much better to do the legwork for an earned win, even though it takes more time and poses more of a challenge. Good luck!
It could be worse, it could be Baldurs Gate 2 with *iron golems* in the starting dungeon :)
Grrrrr
Still love that game
For info, i did use a scroll of expeditious retreat to rush out via the wall.
The wolves were ok to kill if i remember (pure magus here)
You will find a "Shadow Statuette" - close to where you find the Acorns. You take the Statuette back to to first level (where you escape from the cage) and you will be able to open a door to a 'pocket realm' - several stone, clay and Iron Golems ambush you, if you win you get the +2 Chaos Blade.
All completely pointless and really not worth your time, as you shold really be russhing the Gate District to get the +4 Sunblade from the Lich :)
No - I haven't played BG2 too much, not at all :)
