As to gobbo thing, you can ignore the alignment thing if you so desire. It won't suddenly shift you to evil or something. And even if it somehow will there are atonement scrolls.
but in general yeah this game has a lot of frustrating parts you kinda need to deal with. I get ya.
As to why helping the cult of Lamashtu would be considered an evil act, it's mainly because she directs her flock to destroy humanity[pathfinderkingmaker.fandom.com] and replace it with her spawn. For that reason her teachings generally aren't tolerated in good-aligned kingdoms.
Nok-nok may be "cute" but lamashtu is an evil goddess, formerly a demon if i got the pathfinder lore right. As a DM i wouldn't let a paladin do that, because paladins are supposed to have a very rigid moral code which doesn't leave much wiggle room for interpretation.
Now in P:K, you can support nok-nok, and you won't be punished for it. It's all a matter or roleplay and how you want to play your character, because the game is extremly lenient with alignement, which i think was a good call on the devs part.
I am happy that this decision didn't seem to hurt me in the game. If I have to kill some more crazy cultist Lamashtu followers later and summoned demons than all the better (extra exp and loot for me)
If we knew for a fact that demons actually existed (real nasty ones, like eating babies, unleash plagues for fun ones), would you still be confortable with the 1st amendment allowing people to worship them, making them stronger in the process ?
The way we typically handle the 1st amendment in the United States is that you are free to worship whomever or whatever you wish and however you wish as long as you are not causing harm to another. So in your example, it would not be okay because by the practice of worshiping they are making their evil god / goddess stronger in a tangible way to cause harm to others. This would be something easier to prove in a RPG world where magic exists and the gods reveal themselves in more tangible ways. In our world, it becomes much more complicated because of matters of faith and more intangible religious effects. It can become quite convoluted because it is rarely black and white in terms of decision making or causing harm to others.
So in your example where we know for a fact that demons / gods exist and do tangible harm to others, the 1st amendment would probably have to be thrown out the door and gods / demons would be thrown into national security decisions instead of religious decisions.
But in a DnD / Pathfinder setting, something equivalent to the liberty of cult is a very different concept, tho i believe some regions still uphold it.
There's a whole litterature about how LG kingdoms can tend to this extreme, not just in pathfinder. It's a way to justify seeking balance as a sane choice i guess, as opposed to any extreme that ends up being bad.
CG, CN, CE are all there for those who want to be in this particular fantasy setting and not follow rules..
if you want to be in a world that is biased towards relativism, self interest and sissies who want their every derangement held up as something worthy of notice you can walk out your front door.
LE, LN, LG are choices for those who value law.
