Pitax unused keys: what do they do ?
I have two keys in my inventory after killing Irovetti:

- small gilded key (from the king's body)
- key inscribed with letter B

Does anybody know what they are supposed to open ? Can I get rid of them safely ?

I also found Blakemoor's Hideout before going into Pitax City. It seemed strange that I could make a diplomacy check to convince him to give me a book someone else had commissioned him to produce, but I decided to try it and got the book, then turned it in to Captain Martyn when I eventually met him. I wondered why I never got the achievement for getting the grimoire, then found out I had broken the quest (though I was still able to complete it in the journal). Apparently I totally missed a tough boss fight. I see what Blakemoor meant about it not being ready, though. Misspelling your own name in the title of your book is downright embarrassing. *Blackemoor's Grimore* indeed!

I finished the game without ever finding a use for the gilded key.

Have you kill the ghost in the basement? You need to break a wall with a high athletic check and a key is needed to open a door after the wall is broken.

I don't believe the key you're referencing comes from Irovetti's body, as I dealt w/ the ghost before battling Irovetti. My guess is it opens up something in his chambers, which I saved for last.

The "B" key is for entering Blakemoor's Hideout, which on the region map is found within the "Middle of Nowhere" location.

The failed the athletics check, but teleported behind the wall using BoT (I'm sorry, I'm a blooming high level sorcerer, why on earth would I try to break a wall with my bare hands when I have Fireballs and Disintegrates up the wazoo !? And Hells, Dimension Doors for days ! Same thing for mobility checks to get into ruined towers that are *right* *there*)

I then opened the door with a trickery check.

Ahhh. I got there before I went to Pitax, and didn't need a key to enter (skill checks for the win).

So that takes care of *that* key. Thanks.

Which still leaves some doubt as to the function of the Gilded Key.

Actually, are there *any* doors in this game that absolutely require a key, and don't have a Trickery check ?

Ah.. yes, you are right. I think the key for the ghost door is in the basement.

Did you find the secret door in his chambers? There's another loot area there, though I don't remember if you need the Gilded key for that area. I think the (glaive) Incorruptible Petal is somewhere in his chambers.

I seem to recall a number of doors that needed keys rather than Trickery checks. Including all the way back to the troll fortress in ch. 2.

There are a few other oddities in the palace. Low-cost knick-knacks that have the glowing halo around them like they're either a quest item (they're not) or otherwise important (I found no use for them). An example is the obscene statue of Irovetti & Nyrissa. There's about 4-5 of these items.
The statue is part of the golden golem's enigma, along with cup and lute.

Edit: will give more detail after work, that one is a doozy.

This enigma is about Irovetti; I suppose the clues are in the books you find.
I have no clue how you're supposed to guess that these objects are involved in an enigma, beyond meta gaming.

Ok; so I won't worry about it.

That fight is hidden behind a 40 DC Arcane check! I don't think there is another way to get it.

Or do you get the fight if you come back after one week ?

(edit: sadly I can only mark one post as THE answer; though each part of my question was answered in a different post...)

I think I solved the statue part of that puzzle by trial and error. After numerous failures at answering the golem's questions, I went online and found the same reddit post you linked. :) It seems the only way to know the answers to those questions is to have read certain Pathfinder materials outside of the game. I had searched the entire palace including Irovetti's personal chambers looking for the necessary info. I gave up when only the throne room was left, because I didn't know if I would be able to finish the puzzle after dealing with Irovetti.

I did return to Blakemoor's hideout after taking down Irovetti, but he was just hanging out, as he had been when I first met him. I've read something about going to his hideout after getting the quest The Impatient Pirates of Pitax, so I thought the boss fight would happen if things were done in the correct order? I just did a quick search but am not finding more details right away. Does the DC 40 Arcana check happen when you go to see him after getting the quest from the pirates? Will you know if you fail it, or is it hidden like Vordakai's Arcana check? I'm asking so I can try to get all this right on my next playthrough. ;-)

I did just discover that the book you get for doing the quest right is a *different book* that summons a movanic deva. The one I got summoned a "furious squirrels swarm." I subsequently found its twin in Irovetti's palace.

Wow, I clearly missed some things last game! Thanks for the Reddit link so I can try and solve the golem room later in my current game. I tried to interact w/ it and when that didn't work, started looting the chests. Naturally it took offense and the brute attacked me.

I also apparently messed up the Blakemoor quest, b/c I got the stupid squirrel swarm book and don't remember a chance to face off against the wizard.

(typing on phone)

I looted everything and the golden golem did not mind...

Will provide more detail on Blakemoore tomorrow.

Did you ever use the grimoire? I meant to but forgot about it. I've been wondering what a swarm of furious squirrels would look like in the game. :D

I think I tried it once, and it did nothing important, though I don't remember the foe right now. I just assumed it was a joke item and didn't waste any more time on it. If I manage to mess up the quest a 2nd time, I'll, ah, be more diligent in trying to test it out.
