"create pit" spell and spell-list-info
From what spell-list is this spell? or is it a spcial domain-spell? My Merc-Mage is an universalist 08/15-mage, and can use the scroll, as if it is a mage-spell. But he can't learn it. (same for Octavia.) Since it's a level 2-spell and chars which can learn spells from scrolls can learn them, even if they can't cast them, yet, I wonder, by which class this is learn-able.

I think this is lack of an important info. The scolls should have an info, on which spell-list they appear...

I'm confused by your question, as it IS an arcane spell from the sorcerer/wizard spell list, in fact in my playthrough with a wizard MC i was able to learn the basic pit spell from a scroll

Well, I can't. And I don't have it in my Spellbook. Not in Octavias and not in that of my merc... Maybe it's a bug, then?

BTW, I play the German verions. It's the "Grube erschaffen" Spellscroll. I can't learn this with any Intelligence-based magic-users. (and of course not with charisma-based...)

Any chance you can display a screenshot of the scroll info in question and the characters you are trying ? Its a really weird bug

Assuming you didn't mistake it for something else, it may be a sporadic bug easily corrected by retrying with an earlier save before having it

Pit spells are standard conjuration spells, there should be not issue learning it with a wizard.

Hm. The spell is level 2. The icon is a bit similar to "schmieren" (The grease-like spell) but this is level 1...

I try a screenshot...

The screenshots are now visible in my profile. All marked as public. Screenshot-description is in German, however...

Create Pit:
Wizard can learn this spell from this scroll
Alchemist cannot (they can learn from scrolls, but this is not on their list of spells)
Sorcerer cannot (cannot learn any spells from any scrolls)

I just wanted to point out that Sage Sorcerer is the same (cannot learn from scrolls) even though they are intelligence-based magic-users.

Have you been able to get this character to learn other spells from scrolls? Is it all scrolls, or just Create Pit that is the problem? Does the character already have that spell in their book?

It's just the create pit. I know, that sage sorcerer can't learn spells from scrolls (I tested this already ^^) You need to be a sorcerer/mage to learn spells from scrolls. You only can learn for the mage then, though (they aren't available as sorcerer, except you have the spell in both classes...)
At least you don't need to divide your attribute-points to two prime-attributes, when you choose the sage as archetype for the sorcerer...

But this special spell isn't learnable... at least in my game. (see the screenshots.)
Alchemists have some spells, but no damage-spells, it seems. (for that, they have their bombs...)
And: they only have personal-forms of some buff-spells? or it this only so for Jubilost? (Which wouldn't surprise me, considering his personality...)

Speaking of magic-users (in all forms:) are there an info where you can see, how much Soulmight the dark elementalist has used? I didn't see one, yet... (I tried a solo-run with one with somewhat easy settings for the random-dungeon-addon. At last, I didn't manage to use this with success, because even in level 6, there where only goblins and such vermin as enemies. (I was level 9 then.) At level 7 I found my nemesis, then. But even, if I managed to drop a burn-point, now and then, I didn't get an Info for the success... well, maybe I try that with the fire-form of Kaessi again... And: does it matter, if the soulmight is successfull? (e. g.: drops a burn point.)

I'm guessing he's using a sorcerer

I have a wizard (scroll savant) that copied create pit as a level 2 conjuration spell, she's also specialised to conjuration so her spell book is filled with such spells.

Unless there is some bug that hinders copying spells to scrollbooks. Octavia should be able to manage acquiring this spell from a scroll as well.

No, based on his screenshots he is really using a Universalist Wizard but there's no option to "scribe" the Pit spell into his spellbook. Really weird...

Wait, have you retrained any of those characters?

Just to link to the screenshot that he's talking about below. With no mods; the only 2 options is;
-The spell is already in Octavia's spellbook, or
-This is a bug

I am 100% sure that she should be able to copy the spell into her spellbook if it is not already there.

I also have the screenshots of the spellbooks with level 2 spells visible... If you find the spell there, then I will all take back...

And no, I didn't retrain any of those characters. I tested retraining once... on my main. (a normal Fire-kinetic.) but I reloaded the save before the retrain and played since then (abondoned the retrained version.)

I once leveled my merc as a sage-sorcerer. but also reloaded the save before that. (He's a pure mage, as you can see...)

And all other spells are learnable. (as you can see because of the amount of level 2-spells he has.) Even level 4 and higher (I can't cast level 4 spells, yet. But Jubilost already has some... )

BTW: the spell isn't availalble to learn on level-up. I will take a screenshot as soon as I level up again. As mage, you can learn all possible spells, as far as I know. (You're not forced to learn a special level.)

Maybe it's a DLC issue? Is it possible that those pit spells are part of a DLC and so you can cast them from scrolls if you find them but cannot learn them unless you have that DLC active? Just thinking...
Migromul Dec 13, 2019 @ 6:16am
I have almost all DLCs. (the kinetic is a DLC-class. The Dark Elementalist is a Archetype of the kinetic.) Lacking only the cosmetic-DLC (Portraits, red Panda and so on.) But if it isn't a bug, this might be the only reason. Although I didn't consider to get usable items...

But if it isn't a bug, this might be the only reason. Although I didn't consider to get usable items with this, so it wasn't worth ca. 15 € for me...

Edit: I just was browsing through the shopside. And what did I find? some free DLCs, which I didn't install, yet. One of them includes the mentioned spell. So, you're right: it IS a DLC, which I don't have activated. THANKS A LOT :)

edit II: Hm. My Library shows this DLC as "installed". The shopside shows it as "not installed" (lacking the blue mark on the left side...)
