The second function of the lore skills is for identifying enemies and giving you more information about their stats. So for Lore: Religion you'll have a chance to get additional information about Undead and Outsiders and other enemies that pertain to religious themes.
The other lore skills serve similar purposes for different enemies, so it's generally good to have a person in your party who is good at each one.
Lore: Religion is probably one of the least needed skills I would say. I really only have it in a few companions I don't use much, so if you have spare skill points for this build you have and decently high WIS, it might be a good move. It kind of it helps if you are building on what your main character's strong abilities are. But in general Perception, Trickery, and Persuasion are most important.
