Penetrating Strike bugged??

I took Penetrating Strike (ignore up to 5 points of DR) for my 2H fighter, but it doesn't seem to do anything. I fought against Redcap Tricksters (DR 10/cold iron) and Ferocious Devourer (DR 5/-), and both had their full DR applied against my Trollreaper greataxe hits (yes, I have weapon focus in greataxes).

So, Penetrating Strike is bugged? I had planned taking Greater Penetrating Strike later, but is that bugged as well? Sad to have wasted a feat. :((

Penetrating Strike works only against things like DR x/slash, where a particular type of damage is specified, and not against DR x/-.

So it doesn't work against DR/cold iron,adamantine,etc. either? If it only works vs. DR/slash,pierce,bludgeon it is a very sad feat.

It doesn't apply to DR without a type. in the most literal reading it would indeed apply to neither of the above, since cold iron is a material and not a type. It should work against skeletons, though, so yay - real value right there.

I found a post on reddit saying it didn't work vs. the DR/blunt of skeleton warriors, either. Seems like the "type" requirement of penetrating strike is so specific that it doesn't actually work against anything. :/

In this game it's useless anyway, probably no one has properly tested it.

there is a real possibility it's as thoroughly coded as ovinrbaane insanity. (aka not at all). I wouldn't know as I've never taken it ever. The devs probably7 didn't either and neither would 99.9% of players, so no reason to waste time coding it xD

Ok, thanks for the replies. I've never used this feat before, but this time I'm playing as a 2H fighter and since he gets plenty of feats I decided to test it. Only to find it not working. :/

Oh, for reference... this is the full in-game description of the feat:

Penetrating Strike
Your attacks made with weapons selected with Weapon Focus ignore up to 5 points of damage reduction.

Definitely bugged or not coded in.

Ok, I managed to find some Skeletal Champions who have DR 5/bludgeoning. No matter how strictly one interprets the description of Penetrating Strike it should at the very least work against DR/bludgeoning.

However, Penetrating Strike does nothing. It is completely useless. :( Has anyone tested the Greater Penetrating Strike feat? Is that bugged / non-functional as well?

Now at level 16, I decided to test the Greater version of Penetrating Strike. Same thing as with the lesser version: it doesn't work at all. :((

So just in case someone is looking for the info:

Both Penetrating Strike and Greater Penetrating Strike are completely useless. These feats don't do anything whatsoever. (tested April 30th 2020)
