Stoneskin requires diamond dust? Any other spells now require components?
So just got to lvl 8 sorc, wanted to get old friend Stoneskin but now see it requires 5 x diamond dust (I have 0) rendering it pretty much useless.

Any other spells require extensive mats just to cast once? (how I wish there was an ingame spell list we could use to plan ahead).

I don't know of any damage spells that require reagents in this game. I was messing around and leveled a wizard to 20, was able to cast all the major damage spells I had.

Quite a few of them. Later they will require diamonds, not diamond dust :)

Well that is a kick in the balls...so avoid those spells then...S**t that just ruined sorcs for me :/

you do realise that stoneskin has always cost money?

I don't remember it costing anytihing in BG. Or is Pathfinder different? I don't know I'm not really familiar with either beyond video games.

No I didn't because I have never played the Pathfinder ruleset, I am used to D&D ruleset where it doesn't cost anything like all other spells.

So you can imagine my surprise that it does. And in my defence since there is no spell list in game I cannot find out ahead of time.

I have no choice but to accept it but it is BS, just makes spells ones you use 3 or 4 times per game for *those* fights... if I remember to use them at all. Time to remove it from sorc, not wasting a slot on it, Octavia can have it if I ever use it.

Sorry all but I think it is a BS system, like magic users are not held back enough now their good abilities need to cost money?

Bleh *insert rant about how things where better back in MY DAY and getting off lawns*

Sorry to dissapoint you, but stoneskin in 3.5 requires granite and 250 gp worth of diamond dust sprinkled on the target’s skin
In 5 ed in requires diamond dust worth 100 gp, which the spell consumes
And we dont speak about 4ed.

What a problem to waste some money on boss encounter? Don't you already doing it by spending potions/scrolls/etc?

Most spells aren't use dust/diamonds so you will always have something to cast.

AD&D always had material components to spells.
Baldurs Gate didnt.
Baldur’s was a Crpg
Pathfinder is a cRPG
I feel.

Did you learn Stoneskin via a level up? because if so, when you moused over the spell, its description would've probably told you it had the regeant cost attached to it.

I haven't yet run into any Sorc/Wizard spells with regeants, though it did take me a few days of resting to wonder why Harrim wasn't using Restoration to clear ability damage... (then I noticed the DIamond Dust cost...)
ElvenMercenary Oct 2, 2018 @ 10:03am
Restoration costs dust, which I’m only aware of now because I’ve never needed to use it as much as in this game.
Flip Oct 2, 2018 @ 10:05am
If the DMG spells don't have it I feel better but still don't like it. Le sigh.

Yes you can spend money on boss encounters but as a sorc I am not learning a spell I will use 4 times. Rebuttal: Octavia will learn it instead.

Tbh I hate sometimes like if feels casters always get shafted, takes ages to get powerful and now you cannot use some of your best without coughing up the dough. Maybe should charge fighters 1000g per cleave finish?

Also this system was not in the following D&D games (which is why it caught me off guard)
BG1 + 2
IWD 1+2
NWN 1+2

Anyways, rant over.

Thank you all for your replies and suggestions
