The Resurrection Plot Hole *spoilers*
Okay, without going into too many spoilers there are several examples of people either dying on screen or as part of the background that are influential to the plot or the characters' backstories.

One thing the Devs have obviously missed is that, simply put, on Galorian... while death is not exactly cheap per-say (there is a rather steep monetary cost), it's also is very much NOT a permanent condition.

While it makes sense on lower levels, at higher levels it starts to break down.

For example, Ekun's family. They throw a big party to make him feel better as one of the companion quests. Where's the companion quest to pick up a couple Diamonds and a pair of shovels once you one of your clerics hits level 13 and give him a real surprise?

Or hell, one egregious example to me was Kesten's death. Oh his hammy death, obviously intended to make us angry and want revenge... all while I had a cleric with a loaded Raise Dead standing literally 15 feet away from where he made his dramatic last gasp.

This is the kind of stuff you need to take into account of. I'm reminded of BG2 TOB. During the siege at the beginning of the game you find a small boy crying over his dead father. While not mention in passing or in any form of dialogue, there's the option to target the body and pop a raise dead on him. Upon which he gets back up, and here's tears and smiles and much happiness at your random act of extreme kindness.

I like the game, but Owlcat really dropped the ball on this one.

Sometimes the Dead don't want to be resurrected. Tabletop version goes into more detail, but a soul can choose to refuse the resurrection. Also, the storyline demands certain events go as planned. Furthermore, Resurrection spells are not toys. It requires the intervention of a diety to work properly.
Also, if you haven't noticed, the Big Bad is powerful enough that they can do things most creatures cannot do.

BloodLord Thanatos Oh yes, I'm sure that both Ekun family and Kesten were totally not into being resurrected. Why reunite with loving father and husband when he so seldom speaks? It can get awkward pretty quick, so it's better to stay dead. And why get back to your feet and protect the kingdom when you just so dramatically (and unnecessarily) thrown your life away. I also would be too ashamed to get back.

Psyckosama, great points. Those things happens when creators don't think within universe but go for cheap melodramatic tricks. I would also add that rest of my group that stay in the capital, should be very well able to defend it.

I get not being able to resurrect Ekuns family because they were eaten by trolls. Not sure if Raise Dead works on troll ♥♥♥♥.

Completely agree with Kesten though. The Devs could have made it an encounter with a Deamon who reaps his soul after death or his body gets lost in the First World or something.

Seriously, this isn't a new problem in this game -- almost any game that has resurection magic runs into this problem. If the plot says someone is dead, then someone is dead, no matter how silly it is.

At least for Ekun's family, Raise Dead isn't going to work as it requires an intact body to work. The higher tier spells in addition to requiring expensive materials any only available to high level clerics still need at least a piece of the body to work; which can be a problem when the cause of death is 'eaten by trolls'.

Final Fantasy 7 anyone?

Or they could have given an in game reason why a person can not be resurrected in that situation, such as Khalid in BG2 whom irenicus desecrated in such a way that the spells wouldnt work, as explained by his wife Jahira in a couple lines of dialog.

Super simple and a plot hole is vanquashed. Still, its pretty minor thing to have skiped considering the general state of the game.
