Maybe you just didn't notice the tabs on the right of the screen in your spellbook ?
Consider uploading a screenshot of your spellbook.
That is assuming your not playing a sorceror
Well, maybe but what is good for paper games is not always good for video games. There should be some kind of balance. Right now wizard is weak as ♥♥♥♥. You dont have any good weapon, nor arrmor, nothing. Spells are weak too when it comes to dmg. I have 6 level wizard and most of my fight does male class in my party.
I'm not really all that knowledgeable about pathfinder but considering its origins having low level wizards getting squished is a tale as old as time. Just something to look back at fondly when you are lording it over the crude troglodytes later on.
With with lvl5 wizard, I have 5 slots available for my lvl 1 spells. But I just used the 5 slots for 5 arcane missiles (really powerful spell). Level 3 spells are really strong, like Lightning bolt and Fireball, way more dmg than your melee companions. But indeed, mages high dmg come from spells with charges, the rest of the time, they can only use lvl-0 spells, doing ridiculously low dmg.
This is access by opening the character sheets (or inventory) and then in the top bar of the UI there should be a "Spellbook" section.
When in the Spellbook section you can select which spells you want to memorize. You can add a single spell several times, if you want more casts per rest.
As you progress, you'll unlock heigher tier of spells, which you also need to memorize.
You also have a specialized spell-type which fits into the top memorize slot. These are more powerful spells, that should be your primary damage dealers/buffs/heals since you gain the most bonus from these.
This system might seem daunting at first, but once you get a hang of it, you'll realize just how powerful the mages are. They have a rough start but dominate the battlefield late game. A single fireball can clear a massive group of enemies. (Watch out for friendly fire)
Hope it helps!
Keep playing and you will be so embarrassed by this post.
The point in Pathfinder PnP is to do a first level char that can attack and cause some damage outside the spells you are granted, and keeping yourself away from the frontline, so ranged damage is the answer here. Elves get +2 in Dex and Int, making it a perfect Mage race to go for.
Get a Dex of 16 by the price of a 14 and you will have a +3 to hit with bows, crossbows and (most importantly) ranged touch attacks.
If you manage to survive until level 2, pick a Rogue Class Level to add +1d6 to any attack you do against enemis that are in battle against someone (this is how Sneak Attack is programmed right now in this game) and for feats pick Point-Blank Shot, Precise Shot and Accomplished Sneak Attack in the 5th level. That will make a wizard that can lauch an Acid Splash which is a ranged touch attack, that ignores Armor, and if you hit you will cause 1d3 + 2d6 every single time. In the first level, things are hard, in the second, you are already causing 1d3+1d6.
This is not perfect but helps to survive and increase the usefulness of wizards and sorcerers right now.
Or try a wizard evoker specialist.
In any regard, until about lvl 7-8 you won't have enough spell to go blast on all fights, and the blast won't be that powerful most of the time, but after that it's going to pack a big punch!
Before it is better to focus on buff or CC/debuff
My Sorcerer is casting daze on humanoid and I'm usually shutting down 1 opponent for the whole fight until my companions get rid of it (usually the caster or rogue), later I'll have even better spells allowing me to shut down opponents in Mass and/or for several rounds
(But it's a different playstyle)
