Monk Class Question
Are any of the subclasses for Monk good/fun to play? I was thinking of going scaled fist but I also don't want to gimp myself.

Scaled Fist changes some abilities that the monk gets but it's not a gimp at all. Most importantly, you lose Quivering Palm (instant death or damage against one enemy) and gain a dragon breath instead. Also, Scaled Fist uses Charisma instead of Wisdom which makes a for good diplomatic, main character.
As with any monk, they become way more powerful in later levels, but kinda suck early on. A lot of people are saying the Grow Claws ability is bugged/useless, but the extra energy damage for unarmed attacks is pretty good.
I went normal Monk. Saves are better and thats what i like.

A lot of the scaled fist monk abilities are broken in game right now and don't work. Mainly their Ki pool.
I tried Scaled Fist, and while I sort of liked it, it's also a bit awkward. Mostly because you suffer from a serious case of MAD (Multiple Attribute Dependency).

Due to the stat replacer, you need CHA... but you still sort of want WIS, because your innate Will resist is 0. Naturally as you fight in melee you need CON, but you also need DEX since you have no armor... but you also need STR, because that's for all your punching. You basically end up with a character that needs every stat by INT, which is pretty rough.

I mostly stopped using a Scaled Fist, despite it allowing me to use one of the better portraits in the game, because of that and the fact I felt like it wasn't fun getting to share in all the fun loot I was finding (since Monks don't really use a lot of gear).

You could mix scaled fist monk with lvl 1 vivasec alchemists for the mutagen choices, then add in 3 levels of rogue and have unarmed attack as your choice + getting dex as your main stat to determine damage instead of strength.

Over time you will find the monk will do a flurry of blows (5-6) with good crit rates stacking quickly, especially because your number of attacks will be one of the highest so all you will see is a near non-stop onslaught of kicks, punches, techniques that simply turn your enemy into a gore mess explosion.

They move very fast and can flank team with melee and ranged (got a nasty in the back lines that your ranged is working on? Charge back with Monk to add a lot of insta sneak attk fun)

Of course you could also go with a similar build by change rogue to knife specialist for the 1d8 sneak attack instead of the base 1d6
I'm currently running a scaled fist monk that also picked up one level of sorcery at my 2nd level, mostly for the mage armor spell. So right now with 6 levels of monk and 1 level of sorcery, I'm having fun with it, even if it is underpowered for a front line character.

+1
They are also good as a prelim. class for Dragon Disciple. Monk with 1 level of Sorcerer then Dragon Disciple.
