A Just Reward
I'm sorry, but WHO DESIGNED THIS QUEST??

Challenge is one thing, but this is just impossible for a lower level character.

I'm trying to survive with my paladin. I managed to kill the hydra with the help of some potions, but that owlbear is complete murder. I tried going invisible, going around the manticore and past the redcaps. But there's a trap, and I don't have a weapon that can hurt them.

So I try invisibility again (as the quest suggests!!) but the owlbear spots me most of the time.

I make it past the owlbear, and there's a completely unavoidable set of traps. That giant plant murders my ass each time I try to fight it. I make it past the plant after several tries, and I CAN'T EXIT THE MAP.

I'm going to have to restart an earlier save, because this is literally impossible. I literally can't avoid being seen by the plant, and literally can't exit the freaking map.

Overall I love the game, but this is just dumb.

You know you can climb the wall on the east side, right? Then climb down?

Don't just try to walk out the front door.

You don't have to kill them, I read up on it somewhere and they won't over an alternate path to escape, still difficult and RNG but possible. I'm guessing if you take your party with you ahead of time then she doesn't show up and you can probably scout it out. Something about a couple mobility/athletic checks.

You really aren't meant to kill them. You can try, but you'll likely fail. I once tried to crank the game down as low as possible to see, and you'll still probably die. That Owlbear is SUPER buffed up.

And yeah if you bring your party, nothing happens. The quest only progresses when you come alone.

Yeah, even my rogue was struggeling. It helped with the traps. But even with 20 in stealth skill I got detected by the plant.
But I got out of the map. The thing is, I believe when you jug a potion of vanish or invisibility you are guaranteed one round of non detection. So run to the exit, use the potion and exit the map.

I tried. My character can't make it.

It really scrapes my ass that I can't at least use the map exit if I'm being targeted.

Do you just not have the stats to even remotely succeed?

And I think its just that you can't leave the map if you're "in combat". You might have to try what someone else said, and have another potion to chug at the map exit to break combat and flee before they can engage combat again.

I tried that potion thing. I didn't work.

I DID make it up the wall, past that OTHER trap, and down.

Sheesh.

Now I think it's time to build lumber mills. Lots and lots of lumber mills. And tanneries. Very polluting ones.

As a sorcerer, this screws me so hard it really is kinda funny. Difficult enough just reaching the damned place let alone escaping.
The game design of this quest is horrible. First, you are supposed to wonder the map before clicking on the tree to begin the scene. A fair player would click on the tree. If you do that and you can't make yourself invisible, it is bad already. The CD to climb the wall is 22 (good luck with that, guys!). If you fail, you suffer knock down and the hydra is all over you. If you manage, you face (or outrun) one enemy in the walls and ran through a fallen tree trunk and what do you find? Two wolves that prevents you from escaping and a body on the ground. Which is the loot? Two Invisibility Potions! This is so horrible game design! If the potions were important to face the challenge, they should be put BEFORE the player reached the tree, not after. Also, the game is punishing you if you explore inside the fort where a trap you can't see may trigger and outright kill you as I died. So you should explore but not what the devs don't want you to explore! How to know that? Google your way out or the frustrating trial and error.

How many times do you enter a place with out having your rogue/trapper check it?
You are supposed to go alone. Why on Earth would you enter the map and keep exploring it with your party as the game warns you that she will not show up if the party is with you? Also, many players went there alone (what I didn't do - I let them go when I arrived). And that is just a piece of the horrible game design.

No. This is a great game design, because it's immersing. It's such an obvious trap, any smart person would check the place with full party beforehand an stock on invis potions and other items. Only reason why people don't do it, it's because game made them used to being babysitted. You walk into a trap without preparation, because you expect that the game would just leave you an obvious path out. The problem isn't with Pathfinder, is with all other games that do this ♥♥♥♥, so players are used to being immortal gods who can do anything without using their brains. I like that for once, I actually feel endangered in this game sometimes, plan everything, and have to think about my choices.
I went alone as a level 7 sword saint magus. I turned the difficulty down to carebear mode and put on my heal potion hat of chugging.

I proceeded to murder all the redcaps the hydra the manticore the owlbear and the giant plant of doom.

The quest was designed by some S&M player killer maschochist DM. I rather enjoyed stomping all over their carefully laid deathtrap.

Unforuntaely you get NOTHING for killing all the monsters, i even made circuits around the entire place twice slowly to make sure I didnt miss an invis redcap or anything... NADA

So even with "fufilling" the quest objectives to murder everything you get no reward.

A+ quest design here folks....

I mean, I'm not elitist, but this really is a great quest. Frustration is intended. That's why it's a betrayal.

You can climb the wall easily enough. One Redcap should be doable. Then climb down the tree. If you trigger the trap with only one Redcap, just kill him.

If you want to stealth through this, chug a potion of invisibility, then follow their paths. I know this might be shocking given how much the game and other games ignore this, but it models them not walking on the trap areas and triggering them so you can follow their path out. There are even gaps in when they are moving so you can sneak in between them.

What feel so off for me is the weird enemy difficulty. I mean from all three creatures that attack you the owlbear is so much more powerful its not even funny.
In easy that thing has a +24 attack bonus (with the powerful stance thingy) and it makes 4 attack when your PC makes only one...
Meanwhile the hydra and manticore can't even touch you.
