I suppose its not really realistic but, neither is having an event pop on the 30th that will auto fail once it rolls over to the first of the month.
You failed the quest because amiri is not joining back to your party and you cannot made the mainstory. Hidden timer wrecks you in this part.

Look at this: let's say you love one of the NPCs that are walking with you. Then you find out that you are out of Advisors and you are faced with a simple matter: or you give up on enjoying your beloved NPC or your kingdom fails. This is a horrible game design decision by itself.
What are you on? Choosing NPCs as advisors does not hinder their ability to travel with you.

Want to leave capital? 30 secs loading time to capital town. Walk 20 secs to area exit. Load again to world map.
