Is it just me or is sleep spell absolutely ♥♥♥♥?
Sometimes when I cast it on a group of enemies the spell is cast but absolutely nothing happens - no save checks or anything. It's like it never was casted in the firstplace.

If I'm actually lucky for it to affect something, it's usually resisted anyways.

And the cast time is insanely long.

And the AoE range is pretty small.

Seems like a totally garbage spell, right?

sleep in general is worthless after ya get past very early levels, it auto fails on anything pat a certain number of hit dice

"A sleep spell causes a magical slumber to come upon 4 HD of creatures. Creatures with the fewest HD are affected first. " What Kingmaker fails to convey is what a creatures HD (or hit dice) really is. You'll honestly be unable to tell whether or not something can be slept until you try and there's no real indicator when it fails why it failed. The main problem is the game is ridiculously overtuned so things often times have more HD than they should. Any character with 4 levels in any class is automatically immune for instance.

At levels 1 and 2 Sleep is OP. Can turn certain encounters into cake by eliminating half the opposition before actually fighting. After that stage though not so much.

Oh yeah, I should've figured it had to do with the HD business. I'm dumb and didn't really know what it meant by HD. Still don't lol

Sleep is really bad because it targets so few total hit dice.

It can be a moderately useful spell for the first three levels of a tabletop game... but this campaign is so weird, sending 2 giant spiders + 3 packs of spiders at you at level 2 while rewarding next to no XP that a lot of traditional tabletop rules just don't apply.

Hit Dice is just a fancy way of saying "how many dice did you roll to calculate your hit points". A level 3 fighter has rolled 3d10+CON to calculate his HP so he has 3 HD.
