What determines base attack bonus?
So much ♥♥♥♥ in this game doesn't seem to me to be explained properly or well...

I also love when I'm looking for an explanation for a modifier and it just says "Other". Real ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ helpful Owlcat...

Your character class. And yes, class features like BAB and HP are poorly documented ingame, I recommend using this for any class related questions: https://www.d20pfsrd.com/

Charecter class, it's level. Str for melee weapons ( unless you have weapon finesse perk), dex for ranged weapons. Dex for touch attack.

Also spells, buffs, feats.

Feats : weapon focus so on

spells : bless ect..

buffs : stat boosts, rage so on increase bab as you get str or dex bonus

It does help to know Pathfinder. BAB is Strength Modifier + Class BAB. Martial classes (fighter, ranger, barbarian, etc) gets +1 bab per lvl, while wizard/sorcerer gets the fewest BAB. Weapon finesse means you use Dex instead of Str modifier but only with light weapons. Ranged BAB is always with Dex instead of Str.

Technically, Base Attack Bonus is ONLY from class levels.

For Prestige Classes for example, a BAB requirement of +7 means you need to be a Fighter level 7 ( or similiar), not a Fighter level 4 with +3 STR modifier.

Base Attack Bonus and ability modifier to attack are separate entities

Unless it's dual wield ranger, then they bab with Str, untill you get finesse. ( if you use ligth weapons).

Don't worry bout it Trip, pathfinder 3.5 is one of the most complex tabletop systems there is, and this game has simplified version !

BAB is a 3.5E D&D thing.

Fighter classes get +1 per level, priest classes get +15 across 20 levels, Rogues get +14 and Mages get +11 (or something of the sort going by memory).

Then there's all the bonuses you put on top. High Str/dex or any other stat you have feats for, enchantment bonus from weapons or gear, morale etc.

That ends up with a BAB total.
