I have acquired the coins and now have to decide. But something tells me you can free both. Does somebody know if there is a third end to this quest?

Helping the ghoul resolts in a +2 cloak of resistance

Not really worth it imo, helping wilbur gets you a Phylactery of Positive Channeling, which I've gotten way more use out of than a measly +2 cloak of resistance.

Thanks, I never got that option for the specter, I gave two coins to the zombie but I believe that left me with one.

In the end, I don't believe you can save both cursed man, you just have to decide who is deserving the curse less: Wilbur was simply jealous while the father was manipulative (as he was trying to protect his village from the anger of fey at the cost of his daughter's happiness).
As to who gave them idea - it is obvious it is the Nyrissa - in the end she mentions, that one of the kingdom she has destroyed, required only two whispers.

So after 30 hours in the game, this is quite possibly the worst area (not just the quest) I've come across. Only by pure chance did I not do it earlier and therefore almost missed out entirely on the printing press quest which doesn't point you anywhere specific at all, but also this quest is a complete and utter mess that feels like it was done by an overambitious intern who got fired before he actually finished it. The ghost is somehow bothered by wisps that are locked up with a spell in a freaking well half the map away, the NPCs don't want to talk to you at all about anything you find, you can't confront anyone about any piece of evidence or any clue you find, the mocking voices are never explained nor justified, and then to add insult to injury the rewards for this whole thing are so pathetic that you easily find much much more valuable stuff just walking around the area. I spent half an hour waltzing back and forth combing the area for clues and hoping a questlog note will point me closer to a solution or some NPC will finally react to all the ♥♥♥♥ I found, but no, unless you have the entire 3d puzzle solved and ready in hand, it's basically searching for a needle in a haystack, while you're blind and the haystack is also on fire. I hate this area with a passion, it's hilariously bad compared to many other quests in the same stage and before. The witch living in the area is completely unbothered by anything and doesn't give a flying ♥♥♥♥ about the entire thing. There's no logical chain of events, you're just meant to be in all the right places at all the right times and do all the right things. If I wrote this I'd be embarrased and rewrite the whole thing from scratch in a patch.

Oh and also when you give coins for the eyes, call me crazy but I think people are meant to have 2 of those? Why on earth do you give them all 3? 2 for the eyes and one up their ass just to be extra sure the curse doesn't fly back from the rear? PFFFFF.... ok rant over.

It's really stupid that you can't save both of them. You find THREE coins. Two of them have Wilbur's name on them, and one of them has Callistria's name on them. Obviously one of the Wilbur coins is from the daughter, and the other two coins are from the groom (zombie). It makes no sense why you can't give two coins to the zombie and one coin to the altar. You have enough coins to uncurse both of them, but no, apparently that's not possible.

Personally, I think the bride is the worst person here. She let herself be seduced by a fey queen. She deserved far worse than she got. Like Dugath said "Disgusting... Look, it's not even a human. Right, she wasn't human at all — she was fey!" She let herself be seduced by a fey, and fey are utter scum. Goblins, Kobolds, and Trolls cannot match the sheer decadence and cruelty the fey practice for amusement. The only good fey is a dead fey.

No, obviously it's her cowardly father that lied to everyone and still hope for the best. He failed both as a father and as a village chief. I helped Dorsy (Zombie) instead because he's also the victim here. Wilbur can just go wonder around til the end of time.

They are explained in Left Down corner of the area, behind Athletic or Mobility skill check.

so i used a save edit to duplicate the coins and when i went to the zombie after freeing the specter, he still attacked me even though i had the coins to give him. there is no way to save both of them. it is hard coded
