On normal with enemies on the absolute weakest my magus archer (can't remember the actual class name off hand) can barely survive the two wolves let alone the hydra, owlbear and whatever the other one is.
These fights are absolutely impossible to solo unless you have some form of perfect set-up to solo. Can't even use vanish potions to just run away either because the hydra spots me no matter what I do.
Christ I thought the bug swarms were bad. This is just honestly extremely frustrating and unfun.
"some form of perfect set-up to solo" - it's called monk :)
This game pulls no punches and there encounters out there which will trash your party with little effort even on normal setting. Save often and drop your difficulty if need be - one of the tips suggests that very strategy. I have had to dip down to easy for a couple of key fights and left a couple of other encounters until I had leveled the party up and they had better gear.
I'm fully aware it's a difficult game that doesn't mean I should be forced to have a perfect build/class or constantly have to lower difficulty to get past certain parts.
you can run towards entrance, use the mobility check to go east side, and drop aggro from enemies.
Unless gimoee you're not supposed to actually do. Them.
The journal even says... If I were the baron I would take some invisibility potions.
If that's not an hint I don't know what is.
Also the description of the quest when the monster pop is literally survive or escape.
