Trouble recruiting Tristian

I have cleared Temple of the Elk and met Tristian. He said he can't join me immidiately, that he will go to Oleg's Inn and rest first.

Now he just lies on the bed and says "he will get better soon".

Since then 20 days have passed, and he still lies there, the bum.

Is it a bug or do I have to clear a certain story element for him to join?

Tristian joined my party as soon as I killed all the enemies in the area. (I could add him to roster and I did) Did you kill the frogs + wolves + boar + the big bear? You need to have the bog area in the middle cleared and shiny.
Or maybe if you take too long killing the bear/tree thing, maybe he gets hurt... But he says he can heal himself.

It sounds like a bug...

Can confirm that issue. When you have an empty party spot will he join immeditatly if not will he never leave that bed.

Thats really bad... I was going to add him to my party, now I can't. Neither of those 3 hotfixes seem to repair the issue, too.

If you hunted Tartuccio first then you will not be able to have Tristian in your party until you have defeated the Stag lord and started your barony he is only available in first chapter if you go directly and ignore your rival.

He joined my party after I killed the Stag Lord and got the Barony.

Yes, this is answer, You either have Tristan to join early, or guys from prologue (althought one of the can still join early).

Its not bug, if you take time to do kobold mite quest first(and recuir those dudes), Tristan is in bed for act 1 and joins in act 2

What I found after playing around with it a bit:

1: Go to river and find Jhad to learn where Tristian is.
2. Go to Tartuccio and pick up your choice of the 2 companions you didn't get.
3. (Optional) Wander around until Tech League kidnap, then go get Oct and Regongar, sending 2 people back so you have an open slot.
4. Go to Temple of the Elk and save Tristian before he goes down.

Doing this means that only the 1 of the 2 you didn't get in the beginning is under leveled/locked until Act I (Stag King is apparently prequel?) AND you get Tristian. Try to do this all before you hit level 3 and you get the bonus of Tristian having MORE exp than your group.
