Paladins
Are they worth playing, or do they suck hard? I mean class and roleplay wise.
And if they are, what could be a decent build, not to go full paladin?

Remember you do not need to sword / shield as paladin. 2 handed weapon paladins for more damage output are totally feasible. And pick up cleave line of feats.

p.s. if paladins can outright outperform pure martial classes then paizo might as well delete them from the ruleset XD paladin is a viable melee class with plenty of utility.

I'm playing a Paladin and he's a decent tank, accurate hitter and decent healer. He's not the best at anything other than dealing with evil monsters. With blessed weapon, he pretty much single-handedly beat the smoulderburn at level 5. He can protect the backline if they are being threatened, and combat revive the main healer if he gets downed as well.

To me, he's a utility hero.

Also on 5e, I played a Paladin and he was insane in terms of damage. At level 2, I was dealing 18 damage. And the heavy armor feat. means I take 3 less physical damage early on. That's like a level 3 feat. I think. 5e is a completely different beast though.

I would mix them with fighter instead of strait paladin.

For example paladin 11/fighter 9 work well, you will be almost as good fighting as a pure fighter and have LOTS of defensive options and some offensive too.

Can have some fun with paladins with 2 weapon fighting and shield bash also. Super high AC and very good damage when smiting

You dont have enough feats for it with just paladin, dual wield is VERY feat and stat expensive.

In Pathfinder paladins are a strong class to play:
1)They get Lay on Hands at level 2, which allows them to heal themselves as a swift action every round(it doesn't take the place of an attack like casting cure light wounds does)

2)They get there Charisma modifier added to saves, which gives a Paladin with 18+ Charisma the best chance to be un-effected or less effected by spells and harmful abilities.

3)Smite Evil allows makes most boss fights much easier for the Paladin as it gives a boost to attack rolls, damage rolls, and Armor Class against enemies with evil alignments.

--To make a powerful Paladin boost Strength and Charisma, with some points in Constitution. Take points out of Intelligence and Wisdom to further boost those 3 stats. Pick a race that gives bonuses to any of those 3 stats without giving penalties to any of the 3(Aasimar works best here).

And with that you have a hard hitting, self healing tank that can use Smite Evil to go into overdrive in tough fights.

You'll see them all over the place when people start posting builds. Classic dip class.

What about the roleplaying aspect, though? Will being always the good boyscout be a massive pain in the neck? Or will there be options that don't make you seem a saint all the time?

Really doent take that much. Go human and take 2 weapon fighting and shield bash at 1. Get improved shield bash at 3 and you are functional. Can get a 15 in dex and a 17 in Str to start without gimping anything too bad.

Its not as optimized as an archer but its totally viable.

They just have to be lawful good. This game doesnt do a class based roleplaying options on dialogues.

I mean you outright execute every bandit as lawful good...

Neutral good would be nice boyscout, lawful good is judge dredd.

For this game? just keep track of your alignment wheel. if it slides too much towards the sides, just pick the Lawful or Good options xD You don't have to do it all the time, you wont lose Lawful Good just because you choose to pocket the money from the treasury that one time :P

Judge Dredd is Lawful Neutral. Lawful Neutral = "The law is first and foremost."

Lawful Good = "I want to act within accordance of the law and support the law, but the law should be wielded with good intentions."

Extreme "THE LAAAAW!" mentality is what I'd call Lawful Stupid.

Well in our world yes, but in dnd and pathfinder good and evil works little differently.
Breaking the law is automatically evil and punishing those that do is always good.

No, breaking the law is chaotic. It's not evil. That's why the Law vs. Chaos dichotomy exists. If you need proof, you can look at the alignment wheel. Lawful Evil exists, and so does Chaotic Good.

Some laws are tyrranical, too, in Pathfinder. The Hellknights are one of the most lawful organizations on Golarion. But guess what? They're also mostly evil, though they do have a few Good members. They come from a nation that is Lawful Evil because it worships Asmodaeus, a literal Devil. But hey, they're as Lawful as they come! Clearly good guys, right?
