Shared Exp on
Ex: Everyone(including non active) gets 10 exp for the kill or skill check.
Shared Exp off
Ex. Everyone in active party shares the 60 exp for the kill or skill check. Solo gets full 60. While a full active party would get 10(60/6).
Always use shared exp if your going to use a full party its basically free exp for those not actively in your party. If you are trying to solo or use less then 6 then turn exp sharing off for a benefit. On my second playthrough im only using 2 people so I have it turned off. I hope this helps
Shared XP OFF = Only the characters in the party get an xp share.
The shared XP is also granted to companions you haven't met yet.
Essentially unless you're running with a party of five or less characters, and not caring if the other companions are underleveled, there's no reason to turn shared xp off.
The kingdom management aspect of the game does give you some catch up the levels of under leveled companions, but only seems to get them within one level of you, and not sure if it works for all of them.
I forget exactly what is in Oleg's chest, but it's nothing mission critical.
You will over the course of the game miss some good loot if you don't have two characters with trickery for opening chests. If you fail a trickery check, you have to wait until you level the character to try again, and you really don't have time to backtrack across the map to open chests.
There's a toggle for that in the options right under the shared xp on/off.
I've heard that too - it sounds like part of the game may be knowing when to run with a smaller party (or solo) and when to turn exp sharing back on.
