Harrim's quest at the Dwarven Ruins
So, I found out that it's possible to spare either Tartuk or Hargulka after fighting them in the Dwarven Ruins and allow them to build a vassal kingdom in the hollowed out shell and swear fealty to you. I've always wanted my own kobold city.

But doing so automatically fails Harrim's first personal quest because you're forced out of the ruins immediately after the conversation and can't get back in. This makes no sense for either side. Hargulka says it's because the trolls need to learn to not attack humans on sight (thanks, but I can handle myself against any of your people stupid enough to attack me), while Tartuk says it's because they already dug out the interior of the fortress and started on new tunnels (which makes even less sense than the trolls' reason; we literally JUST walked out).

Is this an oversight, or is it supposed to be that way? Why can't we say, "Hey, hold on, I want to look around before we leave apparently forever," or just not talk to the survivor until after we finish up with the forge?

I don't want to finish the dungeon now because, from a roleplay perspective and even though I recognize it's probably an extremely bad idea, I REALLY want to spare Tartuk and let him build a kobold city there. But I also don't really want to arbitrarily fail Harrim's personal quest and lock him out from getting closure he wants, either. Now, if failing this part of the quest doesn't have an impact on the next part, then I wouldn't mind so much. I know what's in the forge, I just don't know if it's important later.

The reason why you're forced out is because there might still be aggros alive in the dungeon, and it's easier for the devs to just force the player out rather than make everything that's left alive turn non-hostile (and possibly add dialogue to them).

I think the Harrim quest failing is just an oversight.

What circumstances lets them build a city there? In my game, Tartuk left after I spared him.

It wouldn't be unreasonable for anyone still in the ruins to still be aggressive after you beat the bosses. They'd have no reason to know you beat them.

I kind of hope they fix that. It's vexxing.

The special option that only chaotics get.

Ok, thanks. Yeah, I guess I need to do a CE character at some point. :D

[Edit] Sniped

Yeah, Chaotic options are more fun.

But does anyone know if the item is important or not?

I only spared Hargulka (who said will leave for some far away place) and some kobolds outside. I killed Tartuk. The fact you cannot reenter should be fixed in a patch.

When you allow Tartuk to build his kingdom he collapses the inside of the fortress for... "reasons". So they'd have to change a lot of stuff. But I feel like they should at least warn you that this will fail Harrims whole quest line.

I don't see why we're forced to leave immediately anyway. The forge is right there, and it's possible to loot everything before fighting them, including the chests in the room with Hargulka and Tartuk if you skirt around the edges of the room.

Anywho, I did a little searching around. The item you get from the forge seems to be used in Harrim's second quest somehow, or finishing his first quest impacts it. It's all pretty vague, between the game being new and bugged the further into it you get.

So I guess right now the options are to let the kingdom rise and fail Harrim's entire personal quest line, or kill/banish the montrous races that just want a place to call their own for the sake of the annoying, depressing dwarf who's running from his past.

I messaged a developer on the official forums and they confirmed that this is an oversight and will be addressed in a future patch.
