Anyone Else Annoyed At 1 Chance Skill Checks?
So I've played the pnp Pathfinder game for a while, GMing actually, and while playing this game its annoyed me to no end how the skill checks differ between pen and paper and the game.

Checks like Athletics, Mobility, and Trickery checks can typically be tried any number of times. There is a reason for this in game, dice rolls. Nothing is more frustrating than having your rogue roll a 2 on a disable device check and having the lock magically become unpickable for a whole bleeding level. I mean, guess I failed to pick this particular lock and arbitrarily cannot try again for X amount of time.

Or worse, you failed a mobility check. I failed to climb this cliff, guess I can never try this again.

Don't get me wrong, there are some skill checks that cannot be attempted more than once in the Pen and Paper game but unless you seriously botch a roll you can usually try most physical skills multiple times. This is especially important since you can't take 10 in this game system, which is normally how you assure success outside of combat in the pen and paper world.

Hope you saved recently! Gotta reload the game!

100% agree.

Yo! As someone who also played a lot of the PnP, I agree completely. It's absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I can't even have another character with the skill attempt it in some cases, like Lore, or even Athletics! And in the PnP, you not only can try again, but you can take 20 with stuff like lockpicking!

Only skill that can't be tryed again (unless you level up) is trickery... rest can be done over.
For mobility and such you generally get some damage.
For perception it seems to be timed every few seconds.

Not true, Lore checks can only be tried once, and only by one character. If they fail it, it's locked.

This is actually not true. There was an Athletics check I encountered that involved climbing up something. Amiri failed, and I couldn't try again, not even with a different character. Same thing occurs for Lore and Knowledge checks. If you fail, you can't try again, even if you have another character with the skill.

Yep, this is false. There are several Athletics and Mobility checks that do not allow for retries, notably I was prevented from fully exploring a lich's tomb because I happened to roll a 3 on a roll I needed 4 or greater to obtain. I'm sure it was just misc treasure, but a powerful magic item or encounter could have been hidden behind there and I'll never get to see it this playthrough.

Lore checks also happen this way, though in pen and paper you can only attempt a given lore check once. Still, its a shame you can't have everyone in the party attempt the lore check the same way you can have multiple people try to pick a lock.

I'd be less bitter about this if it was consistent.

Perception also not true.... If you fail it with all your characters, come back with other characters or wait until you level up to try again.

I thought if you used trickery skill to unlock something but failed you could use a Bard song or spell which increased the trickery lvl to try again.

Nope, you have to level your character up. Buffs don't help, you have to buff before you try.

Also, would be nice to see the DCs of everything that way I'd know if its worth trying to do a skill check. You know, like how dialogue has skill checks dcs listed.
