Thanks good to know. I get disintegrate as a cleric domain spell, and that sounds like a cool spell so maybe I go for it. Seems that cleric gets BAB+8 at 11th level, but since disintegrate is 7th spell for cleric I'd get benefit from the trait at level 13 earliest.
Well I guess the 5% increase in critical chance isn't really worth 2 traits, but who cares. Though I might also need to take spell focus to help with the save DC...
It's pointless to build around a spell that you can only cast 1/day.
Furthermore, it's a ranged touch attack, and your cleric will likely have a low Dex bonus (due to armor) on top of already mediocre BAB.
If you want to spec in rays, roll a Viv/Sorc/Arcane Trickster with 20 Dex and 20 Cha.
I can cast it several times because it's a primary domain spell and my cleric is esq-whatever. I have also specced to dexterity because why not since I can't use armor anyway.
Oh you're trying to play Ecclesitheurge then? My condolences, that class is so bugged I wouldn't touch it with a 10-ft pole, specifically the primary domain feature. For testing purposes I've leveled an Ecc once, and the domain spells couldn't be memorized in regular slots most of the time.
On top of that, Ray-focused Ecclesitheurge is super MAD: not only it needs high WIS and CHA for spells and channels, but also high DEX for dodge and ranged touch attacks, and high CON for survivability. Even if you pick Aasimar you're still be lacking in 2 of the 4 stats. And he can't ever wear armor, nor use shields, so he'll be hogging those +armor bracers from your mages. But he cannot compare to Arcane casters damage wise, and doesn't get awesome Arcane defensive spells like Mirror Image and Greater Invis. All in all, a very troubled class if you ask me.
Disintegrate is a sucky spell anyway. It a) requires a ranged touch to hit; b) allows a saving throw not even for half damage, but for 1/8 damage; c) allows spell resistance. With your non-stellar Dex and medium BAB you're likely to fail at a) already. And even if you succeed, at best it's 140 average damage against ONE target at CL 20. Meanwhile Chain lightning on a Draconic Sorc/AT deals 144 average damage against ALL targets on screen, doesn't need a ranged touch attack, has guaranteed half damage, and is only a 6th level spell.
Sounds like fun then. Though I might focus on ranged touch attacks instead since the only other ray I get is the hellfire ray. Will see.
And yeah the primary mechanic is sadly bugged atm, I reported it the other day.
What are you saying?
1) Rays ARE ranged touch, and that's the only way you can get Weapon Focus in ranged touch.
2) Ecclesitheurge's primary mechanic is bugged but you still want to play it? LOL.
3) There are several ray spells. The best for sneak attack shenanigans are Scorching and especially Hellfire.
4) If you want to play an armorless caster just play Wiz or Sorc...
There is a weapon focus trait for both ray and touch if I recall. Which one of these benefit ranged touch attacks such as reach extended Slay Living or Arrow of Law?
And yeah I'm still gonna play it.
