Optimal city layout
Hello

I just became a baron and I m trying to figure out the optimal city layout for my priorities. But for this, I need to know how your capital expands after you upgrade it, can someone share a photo from upgraded capital so that I can understand which side the building squares expand to? I intend to build my city with least possible re-makes(demolishes).

I also have few other questions in my mind; from what I've learned on forums you get extra bonus by stacking bonus giver buildings next to bonus taker building, for example 4 inns next to 1 shop gives +4 to economy, but do we also get base stats of these buildings when we construct more than 1? Lets say we built 4 smithy, in that case do we get 4 military stat?

What does adjacent exactly means? It should work for north, south, west and east sides of building, but does it works crosswise? Like north-west square of building?

Is there any building which increases in size when you upgrade? So far I've only seen 1x1 sized buildings. I belive longhouse would increase in size once we upgrade it, is that also the case with other buildings?

Thanks a lot!

The "adjacent" layout bonus is in ALL directions n, w, e, s, nw, ne, sw, se.

Obviously a townhall/longhouse is a good place to put in the center of any grid.

For your capital, it's extra squares when upgraded to a town, expands to the lower left, and lower right corners of your screen from the original 3x3 grid.

yeah I was wondering too. Directly North, West, East, South so much is clear...but the other directions? So that Monument there would get the bonus from the Inn(if there would be a bonus)?

Also a tannery and a school? Funny don't have either. But then again I followed my Curators advise of not educating my peasants and rather keep them drunk and docile. So thats probably the reason. Nice to see that those things actual have an effect.

Thanks man that is great, but from what I've seen central area is still 4x4, I guess you get another dock area and a seperated area too for watchtower/mill with upgrade which makes +9 squares but where is the last one? And apparently, town to city upgrade will go to upper left and upper right corners of city since there are no other areas left on map. Which makes center of initial 3x3 plot also the center of last upgrade, m I right? Assuming the center area will become 5x5 on last upgrade.

it doesnt cost anything but time to move buildings you sell for half and get option to rebuild at half cost so dont worry too much about making mistakes early on

Can you confirm it?

Two patch away my tests show that NW/NE/SW/SE directions don't count (test mechanic was : new village, build only two buildings and check changes to stats).

You'd better save the BP for projects and acquire région asap.

Between the 1500bp commercial accord and the city you'll be making more BP than every building in game combined.

Advisor alone give more to your kingdom than the poor buildings.

Jsut make the special buildings that give + resolution in the region and the halfling brewery.

Also several project often require you to spend treasury without knowing it, some events as well (failure or success) so you actually have to make sure you have a bunch of BP in. Stocks. Also useful for a special project that costs 1000bp in case your kingdom is on the brink of collapse.

My two cent after 6 playthrough

Thanks folks, these will help a lot! By the way I can confirm that adjacent bonuses doesn't work cross-wise. I tried to make a shrine south-west of longhouse, it didn't increase stats as it should and gave me only 1 faith.

This is the best advice you can get. I totally agree with that.

The only thing you should build are the bulletin board (if you are lawful) or the stocks to help you get TRIUMPH results when you send advisors to solve a PROBLEM event. Each time you ll get +6 points of stats which is the best way to increase your kingdom stats.

All the other free spots should be used to build special builds (like FRBatailleuse said) and/or some building to reach the 20 stats cap in some categories that are hard to level without advisor (ex: espionage)

I m lawful, I also realized bulletin boards may go useful, do they stack when I build more than 1? Making 2-3 bulletin board should ease my problem in kingdom I guess.

Other alignment buildings (such as brothel) don't stack. I doubt that's any different.

I have built 15 bulletin board...all my problem events got a Triumph result
Aramazon Oct 16, 2018 @ 2:38am
The bulletin board bonus isn't factored into solving problems correctly or is it? It's not appearing when I hover over the + on the character's card when on the problem screen. The break down just lists ranks, and skills, but no bulletin board bonus.
